Is this a good place to start with 1911 or can you recommend better?
Carry ? Range ? Comp ? Boat and Camp ? What's the intended use ? The ProCarry II is fine to start with.
I want a good basic 1911 that I can carry in rotation with my hk45c if I feel the urge.
I have a ProCarry that is a carry gun. Right off the bat you'll need to buy the proper recoil spring from Gunsprings.com as the supplied spring is inadequate. Other than that, good to go.
I had a PC2. If you want to keep the size similar, I'd spend $200 more and get a STI Ranger2 or a Kimber ProTLE2. Better bang for the buck. Both will have a checkered FS and the TLE has NS. Just my 2¢.
I vote this.
I'll throw my $2 in on this.
I vote with these fellows also
And better magazines.
I really like my PCII. It's my most carried 1911, and one of my carried pistols. Good size, balance, etc.
I agree also. Kimbers are nice guns, but to be completely honest, I haven't decided how I feel about them. My Pro TLE is my primary CCW and after replacing the POS factory recoil spring with one from Wolff and restaking the plunger tube that came loose, its been good to go.
My Stainless Pro Carry II was my CCW choice over six years ago. It still is today. I have several others I can carry as well, but I stick to the Pro Carry II.
