Who has one? I've been wanting a 10mm and went to the lgs to look for a G20sf. They didn't have one. They had a G20 and a G29sf. I can't decide which one I want. I was looking around and saw the Kimber. I asked to see it, big mistake! Obviously I don't have to go into how great the 1911 is here but I love it and now I want one. I'm somewhat hesitant to go with Kimber due to my past experiences but I may get over that. I know for the $1150 I could get the G20 and the G29 but 1911 in 10mm is exciting me. If I get the Kimber it would be mostly a safe queen, maybe a HD gun, may do a little hunting with it? The Glock would be a work horse since it's a glock and who cares if you drop it from a tree stand or if you wear it in the woods in the snow, sleet. Plus the extra rnds makes it a great woods gun. I don't need to go over the pros and cons of both but I just can't decide. Knowing if I like the 10mm I'll eventually get a glock and a 1911. Since I'm waiting on a No Name any day now I may just go with the Glock for now? Decisions......

I did have one. One of the best looking 1911s I ever owned, and I've owned more than a few. Nicely fitted, clean machine work. Mine had an easily correctable issue as received, but I still consider it to be a very nice gun and worth the money. I also had a Colt Delta. The Kimber Eclipse displayed a much better fit of barrel-to-slide-to-frame, much better case head support, better trigger, better sights, etc, etc. Just a nicer pistol than the Colt in all respects IMHO.

ps, Had a Glock 20 for a while. I am not the biggest fan of the 10MM in the 1911 platform, but Much preferred the Kimber to the Glock...

The Eclipse is a good gun. I have a G20 and a G29 and use the G20 as my woods gun, as it is very hard to beat 16 rounds of hot 10mm rounds on your hip and the Glock is made for the enviroments of the woods. That being said, I have always wanted a 10mm 1911 too. I've come close to getting one of the Kimbers, but have never followed through with it. You won'tt go wrong with either the Eclipse or the G20, but I bet you'd get more use out of a G20 than the Eclipse.

I carry a G20sf daily and have owned a 29 in the past. I'm not convinced the longer 10mm cartridge is best suited for 1911's. I have also owned a Delta which was a bit finicky.

The 20 gives me piece of mind as I live and hunt in bear woods.

and there's the "friends don't let friends buy Kimber" thing

Love my G29 , carry daily. It's not the SF , but my hands are huge and I find the gun to be a perfect size for CCW+Power

You can always get a 1911 in 10MM later on too. I would recommend the Dan Wesson over the Kimber with it's problem firing pin safety, but that's another topic. Enjoy your 20.

good call. imho the $1k cost of a kimber would be better spent on a nice ar15 like the colt6920.
underwood 10mm is the most reasonable full power ammo avail that i've found. a 200 gr xtp at 1250 fps:cool:
as a comparison the hornady xtp over the counter 180 grain xtp is only 1077 fps, and they run $1 a pop:upeyes:

Kimber's do have better chamber support than the Delta's. I've owned both. I still have my Colt's. Sold the Kimber to fund another project.

If you want real 10mm ammo,

    go to

    www.underwoodammo.com

I own 9 10mm autos and their stuff is as god as it gets and is not overly expensive compared to BB or DT.

Yep. Underwood all the way for SD ammo. Fantastic prices and customer service to go along with top notch loading.

Congrats on the 20. By the way, shooting nuclear 10mm out of a full size 1911 is a whole lotta fun.

Don't try it with a Colt Delta Elite. I had 2 case head failures shooting some hot Swamp Fox (RIP Mike).

Underwood makes a 1240 FPS load just for the Delta. His regular stuff goes 1300 FPS.

I had the Kimber STII and had a ball shooting Mike's 200 grain 1325s. Still have 24 rounds I won't ever shoot.

I recently got the DE Gold Dot loads for my 10mm CCO and love them!

I have been carrying a Glock 20 since 2007 and I've never had an issue with it. I have complete confidence that I can pull the trigger and it will go bang every time. For a defense gun I can't really think of anything more important than knowing it will work. I think you'll find your new Glock to be the same way. Enjoy the new gun.

I just purchased a Colt Delta Elite because I have always wanted a 1911 chambered in 10mm. The Delta Elite in one trip to the range has already given me more issues than my Glock has in 5 fives and thousands of rounds. If I'm still having issues when the DE is actually broken in fully then I'll look into doing something about it but not right away. The ultimate goal is to have the DE as my concealed carry weapon and the Glock as my woods defense gun.

All 3 of my DE's have been perfect OOB. Maybe I'm lucky.

My G20SF shoots pretty well if I were to do it slow fire style. The girth of the grip really kills my rapid fire drills - the gun kept twisting out of my hands during double and triple taps. If your hands are big enough, then it's a non-issue.

I bought a used Delta Elite for decent price, but soon found out that though it functions fine, mechanical accuracy is blah even with a newly fitted barrel bushing. The only time it ever group worth a damn was when I use Double Tap match ammo (and that ain't cheap).
