Kimber CDP II - thoughts?

Discussion in '1911 Forums' started by mr00jimbo, Feb 11, 2010.

  1. Is there any real disadvantage to an aluminum frame 1911?

Does Kimber have a stellar reliability rating? I'm not gonna CCW this thing I just figure if I'm gonna drop a bit of coin eventually I don't want a workout clearing jams all day. :tongueout:

Two of their models that catch my eye are the CDP II and the Raptor (stainless or black)
    Thanks!

The CDP Pro and Raptor Pro are both great. I have them both and have no complaints.

  3. I just picked up a used CDP from a friend that probably has 10,000 rounds through it, and it shoots as well as my brand new crimson carry.

I picked upa vertually new Ultra CDP II in .45 ACP two months ago for $850. With its 3 inch barrel, 7+ 1 capacity and 25 Oz weight, it has become my favorite carry piece. But I still switch back to my Glock 36 and 26 because they too are very easy to carry in a Grandfather Oak kydex IWB or a Smartcarry during the summer. All are great guns you can depend on.

I've been looking at one of these. For those that have one, how does the finish on the frame hold up?

  7. I'd say it holds up pretty well against any other standard finish. See this thread for pictures of the one I just picked up. A buddy of mine used it as a duty gun and the finish has worn through in several areas, but that is to be expected in a duty gun. I'm not sure if someone put on a pair of grips loose or what, but there is wear underneath the grips. Some of it showed with the hogue grips. There is also wear on the bottom of the dust cover and the trigger guard.

All said and done the finish held up pretty well.
