Ask lang, at what age can you introduce your kids to guns? My 6 year old son is asking me to show him my gun. I told him to wait until he is bigger.

Will not let him shoot yet. Just want to introduce him to the basic rules and what to do just in case I accidentaly leave it lyng around the house.

IMHO, let them familiarize with gun as early as possible, not to let them shoot it but to recognize it is as a common tool that belongs to you, exclusively to you. that he can only touch it unless you say so, and if he does give him a punishment that will make him remember not to do it again. explain to him the danger it may cause if an untrained person will shoot a gun, exaggerate the explanation of danger since they are kids and mostly they based their early beliefs through imaginations. explain to them also of course the benefits of owning a gun. the point is, you would keep them away from the danger of curiosity. we all know as parents, that the more kids get curious about a thing, the more they would have to find an opportunity either to do the thing or take it. i have two daughters, one is 17yrs old and the other is a 5 year old, both of them grew up with my guns anywhere in the house but they never touch it unless i tell them so, and they never get curious about it. you might say 'oh that's not problem, your kids are girls'... well boys or girls, they are kids who have the same mind set. to know what they don't know and to get what they don't have. my eldest started to shoot my guns when she was only 10yrs old, a 45 1911, hk mp5 and the 14.5 m16 rifle. hope i share something.

My 20 month knows were the gunsafes are and she knows they are off limits always.(always locked too). She has seen me shoot all my airguns and I gave her a bright orange baby water pistol for the kiddie pool.

She listens very well and as long as she continues to listen(!!!???) I will continue to expose her safely to guns more and more as she gets older.

As soon as she can hold an airgun safely, (Maybe 3?) she is shooting one.

As soon as she can safely hold a .22 short pistol (maybe 4??) she is shooting one.

maliit pa lng ako na expose na ako sa baril eh. at hindi na hi-blood mga magulang ko sakin kasi i dunno but that time i already understand their warning. guns arent toys so super careful naman ako. i think pag ang bata eh ma indoctrinate mo maayos ay responsible naman na hindi gagalawin yung f/a without your permission na adult.

NRA has a good program of educating kids about gun safety. Kids are taught that if they find a gun to:

    STOP!

    Don't Touch.

    Leave the Area.

    Tell an Adult.

Sana meron din program that is similar to this dito sa atin. NRA even have a mascot (Eddie Eagle) to attract children's attention during training programs in schools.

On this age we're in, I think teaching my kids to carry FA, be disciplined, be vigilant is not an option BUT ONE OF MY BIGGEST RESPONSIBILITY.

I need to level the playing field for my children, hindi puwedeng paargabyado na lang. Yan nga madalas kong sabihin sa wife ko, may kumanti lang sa mga anak ko, siguradong magiging criminal ako.

my kids have always been exposed to my guns, I've taught them safety and respect for the fire arm. They only handle any of my guns in my presence, never wuthout me.
