JHP expansion in Glock 26 and colt defender

  1. Dear Mas,
I'm a big fan, impressed by your review of the glock 26. thinking of getting one, but I'm worried if a 9mm JHP will have reliable expansion in a Glock 26. I would also like to ask if a 45 ACP JHP will expand reliably in an officers size 1911.

In both cases the answer is "Yes, with premium ammo." 9mm to some degree and .45 ACP in particular seem to lose expansion potential with the lower velocity of shorter barrels.

That's why you want premium grade ammo, designed to open at lower velocities. Federal HST, Hornady Critical Defense, Remington Golden Saber, Speer Gold Dot, and Winchester Ranger/PDX are all so designed. Pick from those and you should have no problem.

    best,
    Mas
