  1. Any Air Force people or anyone else know what jets are always flying over my house in Surprise? I think they are F16's but I'm really not sure. My 1.5 year old loves it when they fly over. I have to admit, it is pretty cool to see them flying around so close.

A pic, even a bad one, would really help. But since you mention the F-16 I take it the plane is a fighter. If it's a small fighter with a single tail, it's likely an F-16. Twin tails it's an F-15. Presuming these are USAF of course!

  3. Yes, they are small fighters with a single tail. They fly over in singles, more often pairs, and in threes and fours. Sometime just cruising, other times really getting on it. I live in the Luke Air Force Base fly zone witch pretty much covers Surprise. A pic would be hard to get with a digital cam

95% of the birds over this part of the world are F-16s. Once in a while an F-15 will come in, and you can really hear the difference in the sound, it has a much deeper and louder rumble. You'll also occasionally see be cargo birds like C-5s or C-17s, which sound like big airliners.

They would be F-16s. That is the main plane that is station at Luke. Luke is an F-16 training base.

March 24th and 25th is Luke days. They will have an air show with the Thunderbirds. Good chance to see some great planes. It is free to get in with $5 parking.
  6. Thanks for all the info. slicers63 that show sounds good, maybe I'll take the boy and check it out.

In the old days, instead of complaining about them, a lot of the Sun City folks had "Jet Noise, The Sound of Freedom" bumperstickers. :patriot:
  8. I was in the middle of no where a few months ago and a pair of F22s were overhead in a dogfight with the leading jet dropping flares. I couldn't believe how sharp they were turning and then they both disappeared, very quietly.

I was watching another pair in a valley about a month ago and they disappeared the same way, very quietly. One second they are there and then there's nothing where they were.

  10. SE Arizona, spend time in the desert and you get to see different aircraft doing different types of manuevers. While hiking near Mt. Graham a pair of F-16s came through, the first low, fast and thru narrow passes with the wingman staying high.

The F-22s are amazing, one moment they are there and then there's nothing to look at.

  11. Come down to MCAS Miramar some time.

I have heard that the 22s were amazing. I might make a trip down there sometime. A good friend of mine was down about 16 miles North of the Mexico border in one of the cities doing a 90,000 square foot sod job. I'll have to mention that to him.

Although I live in Tempe, I'm down in Tucson at least once a week for service calls... Almost every time down, I see A-10's, F-16's, and C130's...
Several times, just north of Picacho Peak and West of I-10, I've seen AH64 Apache's doing some kind of training... there only a mile or two off the highway... someone had told me they're doing desert landing drills to practice for the middle east.
Back when I was a teenager (20+ years ago) Luke AFB was a TAC base, LOADED with F-15's... a friend of my dad's was a crew chief on them and he let my dad and I come out one night and check a few of them out in a hangar and they had one of the engines in a test stand going full bore...MAN, that thing was LOUD!!
NEVER EVER a complaint about the song of a Fighter flying over!!

Yesterday, I was at a job site and I went to get something out of my car when I noticed movement in the air above the highway, about 1/4-mile away.

It was an F16 about 300' off the deck and directly above Hwy 69, flying sideways with the belly towards me:shocked: .

This was directly over the town of Dewey-Humboldt at 12:30 PM.

I've seen plenty of jets go that low while training, but never over a major road in a town:shocked: .

I haven't heard anything on the news about it, so I guess nobody got too riled up;) .
