Jeep Cherokee Rear Hatch Problem

Discussion in 'Car Forum' started by UtahBen, Apr 12, 2008.

  1. I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee and for some reason the rear hatch door will not open. I have tried using both the keyless entry as well as the key itself.

Do you think I should call a locksmith? Or do I take it into a dealership or something?

  2. I believe the problem is in the mechanism that releases the latch, nothing to do with the key or remote. A dealership or a locksmith will be an expensive option, I would take it to an independent shop if you have one you can trust. I can not remember exactly what I had to do to fix the one I worked on, but the most difficult part is getting at the problem when you can not open the hatch. The fix itself was obvious and easy once I got the cover off(I think it had to do with the linkage).

  3. Hey thanks for the help i will see what I can do.
