Local clown posted this on a local forum. I know it's not ethical but I can't believe it's legal.

    Just an FYI!!

I buy volume license keys for windows 7 Ultimate from China ( I know, I'm a rat bastard for using international sources, ) so I offer windows 7 upgrades for only $30. If you are interested in upgrading your PC to Windows 7 and you are currently running Windows Vista or Windows XP, give me a call @ XXXXXX (or Email me at xxxxxx@neb.rr.com) and I can schedule you in for an upgrade. My fees are always $30 no matter what.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your support, no matter what your political stance is. Always glad to service your PC.

Not even close to legal, and likely won't work unless some sort of "activator" is used. MS changed the way VLK's work after releasing Vista. You have to have a MAK, or KMS key(which is a unique key issued to specific corperations that MS keeps records of and can update/revoke/block at any time if abuse is suspected) in addition to the VLK to activate legitimately. http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/product-activation.aspx

:) The guy's in his forties but he may as well be a teenager. The guy's a real child.

He yaks about "hacking" his cell phone to get services "he requires", which I know can be done, but I interpret that as "services I don't want to pay for and don't mind stealing."

I have no plans whatsoever to do business with him. In the first place, even though I'm not sure about the legalities involved, I'm certain it's unethical at best and I won't do business with such folk.

    Secondly, I run OS/X. :)

I simply wanted to get an idea of the legalities of the situation for my own edification.

Would it surprise anyone to learn he wants Bernie Sanders to run for President?

The method used is to fake a bios, using a loader program and activator. I suspect thats what the person in the OP was actually doing. MS has already caught on to this type of hacktivation long ago. That article was from 09, there have been a bunch of hacktivators released in the meantime with more OEM keys. They work for a short while, then MS blacklists them on some random forced update.

    No, not remotely legal.

If MS gets wind of this, they could sue him into the stone age.

those are generally licenses from people who've signed up for an MSDN account and are not licensed for anything more than development for that account holder (or holder organization).

what usually happens is microsoft realizes what's going on and de-auth all the keys issued to that msdn account.

so, it may work for a while, but eventually it'll stop.

illegal? it goes against the msdn agreement, also it could be considered fraud by misrepresentation and wire fraud.

    Bootlegging at it's best!

Selling weed is just as legal - And depending on the quantities, probably both are felonies...

I wish these guys would just start playing by the rules.
