Can you use an OEM G26 9mm barrel in a G27 .40 lower and shoot 9mm with 9mm mags?

Conversely, can you use an OEM G27 .40 cal barrel in a G26 lower and shoot .40 cal ammo?

You'll have to change the slides that match the barrels too. The ejectors are a bit different but shouldn't cause a problem unless the G27 is an early one with a short ejector.

 This is correct. The .40 S&W barrel has a larger outside diameter so it would not fit in a 26 slide. Conversely, the 26 barrel would be too small for the 27 slide and the muzzle would not be supported during lockup.

If you have a 27, you can get a 9mm conversion barrel that has thicker walls, giving it the same outside diameter as the .40 S&W barrel. Lonewolf has them here.

I assume when you refer to using the barrel in the other pistols "lower" you mean in the other pistols slide. If so, the answer is no...

The top rear part of the G27s barrel which mates up with the slide is wider than that on the G26. The G23 and G19 are the same as well. The rear of the barrel where it mates up with the slide is smaller in width on the 9mm barrel than on the 40 caliber barrel.

The next question might logically be, can you use a G19 barrel in a G26, or a G23 barrel in a G27? Same calibers and width at the back, but just longer out the nose of the slide. When I mix up the parts on the cleaning table it looks like it will work.

Yes you can. The 19 barrel will work ok in a 26. They have the same locking block. It will just extend out the front more. Same goes for the 23 and 27.

Along the same lines, the 17 barrel will NOT work in the 19 as they have different locking blocks. Same goes for at 22 barrel in a 23. No workie.

All Glock 26 frames have all of the Glock 27 reinforcements and are the same 3-pin frames as the Glock 27 frames, except for the ejector. The Glock 26 and Glock 27 frames are the same strength for all years. The other early production 2-pin 9mm Glock frame sizes are weaker than the 40 S&W frames and should not be used for for 40 S&W. The current production 9mm models now use the same 3-pin frames as the 40 S&W models.
