Indiana trooper injured when interrupting an armed robbery at a gun shop. As far as I can tell, the trooper was struck in the back and in the back of the leg, before returning fire with his .45 ACP Glock 21 SF. Suspect ART'd at the scene. The trooper was wearing his vest.

    ISP press release:

    State Trooper Confronts Suspected Armed Robber;

Daviess County, Montgomery, IN: Shortly after 1:35 this afternoon Tpr. Jarrod Lents, 32, a nine year veteran of the Indiana State Police responded to the report of a disturbance at the Lochmiller Gun Shop located in Montgomery, IN. Preliminary investigation indicates an armed robbery was in progress and gunfire was exchanged between Tpr. Lents and the unnamed suspect.

Indications are Tpr. Lents was struck multiple times, but his injuries are reported as non-life threatening. Tpr. Lents was transported by medical helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. The suspect is reported to have died at the scene as a result of gunfire from Tpr. Lents.

Lents arrived, Monday afternoon, by helicopter at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Our reporter on the scene said that the injured trooper raised his arm to wave at officers who showed up to wait for his arrival.

Upon learning that Indiana State Trooper Jared Lents was shot multiple times while responding to the call, Governor Mike Pence issued the following statement.

"I am relieved to learn that Trooper Jared Lents' injuries are not life-threatening. Our prayers go out to him, and I am reminded of the risks those who wear the uniform take every day, and of their courageous service to the people of Indiana."

I know Jared. He's a good troop. He worked my county when he was assigned to District 14 when he got out of academy.

  4. I have to wonder if any of those working at the shop were armed? :whistling:

Prayers to Trooper Lents for a quick and full recovery.

That's what I thought. Strange situation. I'm guessing he went to "rob" the gun store as a means of suicide. Frankly you'd have to be a total moron to rob a gun store, and surely he knew that. For whatever reason, they didn't do it. So when the cop pulled up, it became a sort of "suicide by cop" situation.

That trooper had the stones to turn and fight it to a finish after he was shot from behind. Kol ha kavod, as the Israelis say.

I think that around here you'd be cheerfully shot into hamburger by the store clerks and customers long before the police arrived. :whistling:

I had a friend who owned a gunshop in the big city. He sent a couple of folks out the door "feet first" as they used to say. I was there just moments after the last one.

A "good shoot" if ever there was one.

Glad the Trooper is going to be ok.

On a side note, a gun store here in SC is the last place you want to rob. Everyone, and I mean everyone, in there is armed to the teeth.
  12. As it should be......Kudos to the Trooper for "Taking Care of Business"......

Perhaps the ISP ought to reconsider turning in their G21's for Sigs.
