After over a decade in Hellinois, where I grew up but where I absolutely hate the politics and the anti-freedom laws, my wife and I seized an opportunity to move our family back to Texas. We lived in Ft. Worth in the late 90s, and I went to school in Dallas and lived in Houston in the late 80s and 1990, so I am looking forward to heading home to my adopted favorite state.

We'll be moving to Katy, a western Houston suburb, in mid-July. We can't wait!

I just ordered my car license plates. Can you tell I'm excited?

Well welcome back in July. I'm also from IL and have been down here for little over three years. We are in Tomball. I'm from Wheaton and my wife is from Lincolnwood.

I visited Tomball when I was house hunting last week; my fraternity brother lives there and had us over for BBQ. Nice town.

    Congratulations!

I lived in Austin 1984-1994 and it was the best time of my life, surely because Austin wasn't ruined like it is now.

But Texas is a great state and compared to Illinois it will be --- as you describe --- going from Hell to Paradise.

Say, isn't Nolan Ryan from Katy?

Welcome Scott, I grew up in Houston and left it for Austin in 79. Used to go through Katy several times a year to visit my parents. Watched that town grow. It's famous for it's radar trap on I 10. Hope you like the heat its already here. :faint:

I can't even IMAGINE how depressing it would be to move from Texas to the most corrupt state in the USA, with the WORST firearms laws: Illinois.

But moving in the other direction must make for an itch for moving day, in a BIG way.

Congrats! I wish I could get out of the depressing state of Rhode Island but right now, I have way too much invested here. Wish the best of luck to ya!

Nope, he's from Alvin down past Friendswood.

The wife and I were married in Katy at the Church if Christ. My brother is a Katy Taylor alum. We live north of the Red now and not sure I would EVER go back to southeast Texas.

My folks just got a contract on their house they have for sale in Katy just this past week. You didn't by chance put an offer in on a place already? It'd be a trip if you were buying their house.

You better get your FOID card here.

In Texas we have a madatory 6 month waiting period on long guns, and a 9 months "cool down" period on handguns, just to keep you safe n stuff. Also make sure you apply for your firearms ID card, it's a bit harder to get here than Chicago, it's along the difficulty level of obtaining class 3 weapons.

......Just kidding, welcome back to Texas. Go get yourself a CHL, and call it a day.

YEEEEEEHAW! Congratulations on moving from a place where you are a subject to a republic where you are a free citizen!

I escaped from Illinois in 1992 and I'm NEVER going back unless they honor my Florida CWFL.

Yes, I know.... Hell will likely freeze over first.

My wife was born in Temple, TX and lived in Houston for most of her life until 2000 when she moved to Calif where we met and got married (we live in NC now). And funny thing... she lived the last 15-20 years in Katy herself!

Her Mom still lives in Houston, we went and visited her in 2009(?) shortly after some hurricanes had gone through Galveston. I like Houston, but I like Austin even better. If we didn't live in NC or FL, I could see living in TX.

    Congrats on leaving Illinois !!

Went to a builder meeting yesterday. We were informed that 1950 people are moving to Texas each and every DAY. Don't forget to say howdy to them all.
