So april 7 is my first crack at IDPA and I'm looking for advice and praying that I can find the ammo I need before the match, my options for guns are Glock 22 or FNP 45 usg, I have more rounds down the fnp 45 about 1500 compared to 500 on the glock but, with I dont have to use the manual safety like I would on the fnp 45, if I use the glock I will be to replace the sights on it but I dont want to do that right before the match cause I wont have time to shoot it and find the point of aim/point of impact, what would you shooters do in my case?

Shoot the gun you are most comfortable with.
You just need to get classified, so just relax and have fun.

what ksh said. seriously, just treat your first year of competitions as practice for the next competition.

all things equal, you will be a little more competitive with the .45 because idpa has a division just for .45s (cdp). with your g22, you will be competing mostly against folks with 9mm.

take your time, go slow enough to get solid hits, you can always speed up after you have shown the accuracy.

    have fun.

As far as the gun, I'd shoot the one with which I am more comfortable. The mechanics of operating the safety can be learned with dry fire. Using the stock Glock sights is not necessarily a deal breaker, but may make stage three additional points down. I have a friend who almost made master with a box stock 19 and a thumb-break holster.

As far as the actual shooting:

    1. Don't miss the head shots.

    2. Don't worry about being fast, but don't goob around either.

    3. From the barricade, hold the sights/vertically (don't cant the gun). Good follow-through is important from the barricade.

    4. Be familiar with the CoF, you can dry fire the classifier with 1/3 sized IDPA targets at home.

    5. Relax and make sure your magazines are loaded correctly before each string.

Go to the Dillion website, look up the Blue Press, and read Duane Thomas' series of articles on the classifier.

You can use either gun. Go with what you feel comfortable with. Being your first crack at idpa I would suggest you start in ssp not cdp, you can use either gun. Go to idpa.com and you can read the rule book.

Why would you have to replace the sights on the Glock?

Because clock stock sights suck lol, but really be cause I'm not confident with the rear sight, I like three dot setups or even better would be a target sight fiber front post and black notch rear sight

My 17 is stock, and worked just fine for qualification :)

I say use the 22 the way it is. And next year use your new 34.

Well I dont think I will be getting a 34 for IDPA, seems like a fan favorite but I rather use a gun I will be carrying once Illinois gets conceal carry which will be a PPQ 9mm for inside pants carry and if I carry outside with a jacket it will be the glock 22 or FNP 45

now if I start USPA I could see myself getting a g34

    USPSA has major/minor so you'll want a 35 instead of a 34. Unless your a A zone only shooter!

Ummmmm.... no? Not if you're shooting production. The G34 is just fine as you can only shoot minor in production. And shoot cheaper 9mm ammo as well.

Personally.... while some might use a G35 in limited or L10, I'd get something heavier maybe if I was coing to shoot those divisions.

Had fun at the classifier on Sunday, and got my official times and ranking today

    Marksman CDP
    total score 194.72
    totals points down 42
stage one score 59.95 (14 points down)
stage two score 57.56 (7 points down)
stage three score 77.21 (21 points down)

I was had better hits that I thought when compared to the other 59 shooters, they were just way faster than me

yea i could did really good on stage one but was just so nervous about shooting and trying not to shoot myself, and stage 2 would have gotten a better time but had a double feed that cost me alot of time on the 2 string and on the one of the strings I had forgotten to put my mags back into the carrier and had to search my pockets for a full mag there for costing me more time and adding to the stress.

They should have let you reshoot stage 2 if you had a major malfunction.

Your hits on stage 3 were actually not bad compared to most MM level shooters. You need to speed it up though. Your stage 1 needs to be much cleaner also. You should only be down a couple of points on stage 1.
