I was all set to buy my first entry level 1911 when a S&W 629 less than a year old showed up at my local gun shop for $566 including tax. I couldn't pass it up. (pictures of it will be posted in General firearms section soon).

Anyway, since the 1911 will be put on hold for a bit I have had my mind set on Remington R1 1911: (I'm not buying these particular auctions but just to give you idea of what I was looking at)

This is the one I was looking at:

Until an OD version I saw. IMO I really like this one a lot more. However it is more expensive:

So with the price starting to get up there with the O.D version would it be better or get "more gun" buying the new Ruger 1911 or Springfield 1911?

Thanks for any input. This is my first venture into 1911. So not sure what will get me the most gun for the money.

the price on the od should come down as they become more widely available. the seller is probably catering to the 'gotta have it first' crowd. the ruger is a different style with beavertail and novak sights, etc. depends on if you want a g.i. style or something more modern; springfield has many offerings in the various configurations. in my opinion the most gun for the money is the rock island g.i. or tactical for under 450.00. great starter 1911's.
