I don't get the 1911 love for self defense. Please explain

Yeah,I like them to tinker with and look at and modify with fancy grips and all, but for self defense???
Why would I choose 7 rounds of 45 in a 1911 compared to 13 rounds of 40 cal, 10mm, or even more rounds of 9mm or 10 or more rounds of 45 offered in the various Glocks for self defense??

Even if the gun has been proven to be dead nuts reliable as most Glocks are, you still have less rounds in a heavier gun.

Some people (like me) shoot and handle a 1911 MUCH better than a Glock. I can't stand carrying my Glocks, to be honest.

It's all about the trigger and the ergonomics. If you don't understand after firing one, then you probably will never like it.

Pretty much sums it up for me also. After shooting a 1911 then my Glock the difference is amazing

If you were involved in a life or death situation (ginormously small chance) and needed more than 7 rounds of 45acp your job title probably has the words "hit man," "contractor" or "communications expert". Otherwise that ccw will probably never be used and if it was I doubt more than 1 round would be fired. Even if there were two trolls asking the same question.....

So that leaves me seeking a firearm I enjoy working on, can quickly field strip, find parts for and shoot all day at the range with a myriad of reloads.

Who cares about self defense. My 1911 looks cool at the BBQ and helps keep my balls clean.

BTW, friends that have polymer guns shoot the 1911's better from the first magazine they fire compared to the polymers that they own and practice with.

Wow. Can't stand carry a Glock?? Why is that??
And no I'm not a troll and I do enjoy shooting the 1911 more than the Glock, but still for Self defense, I like the number of rounds.

If I am in a self defense situation and I go through 7+1 and a reload of another 7.....I am screwed anyway.

I feel like I just killed a few brain cells and visited the General Glocking forum.

Perhaps, just maybe, some people prefer a different platform instead of that "perfect" Glock.

The number of rounds doesn't mean much to me. I'm comfortable with the 7+1 rounds in my Kimber.

To me Glocks are blocky and I don't feel nearly as proficient with the grip angle or trigger. I like a grip and thumb safety also.
