Why does a ss AK barrel cost more than a chromelined barrel?

Why would an AK buyer want to spend more $$ for a ss barrel?

I've alway thought that a CL barrel was the preferred choice for an AK. (durability, reliability, easy cleaning but not as accurate)

I could see an AR15 buyer being willing to spend more for ss barrel for the added accuracy if they compete or are really into accuracy.

(I noticed that Lancaster charges more for SS barrels)

    Please enlighten me.

I have no idea. The chrome lined barrel will be a little less accurate, but probably more durable. That seems like an easy decision to make on an AKM. different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Because of more work in the grading, gauging, and polishing? I'd be interested in shooting an AK with a "match grade" stainless barrel--interesting possibilities.

A chrome lined barrel supposedly makes an AK (or any rifle) less accurate ? I had never heard that before. My SGL-20 has one and for an AK it is VERY accurate.I can't imagine it being any more so than it already is. :dunno:

Glocker08 - Congrats on the SGL-20! Those are nice.....wish I could afford one.

For the AR, competition shooters use non-cl barrels. Something about not being able to precisely finish the bore of a cl barrel.

For the AK, I don't think anyone could tell the difference between a cl and a non-cl barrel. That's why I'm a little surprised that Aim and Atlantic only offer the Lancaster AK74 Rough Rider with a SS barrel......I would think the cl barrel would be much more desirable and cheaper.

But maybe there is something I missed about SS barrels that makes them more desirable and more expensive than a cl barrel.

Yeah, it's a fact. There is no way to make chrome lining as uniform as a well made bore that is not chrome lined. FN is pretty close with some of their sniper rifles, but it's still not quite there. The difference with an AK is probably not noticable.
