I couldn't resist a good oportunity

Discussion in 'The 10 Ring' started by robert91922, Nov 26, 2011.

  1. ...so I bought my first revolver - Taurus 44 CP w. 6.5" barrel compensated. It's an older model but that's what I was looking for a while, price was less than half of following model 444 and it is in great condition.
It's my 1st all-steel handgun, I hope it's not against 10-Ring codex to buy something like that :embarassed:
After adjusting rear sight to my cross-dominant eye and few adjusting shots I put 10 rounds of 240gr SJSP MagTech through and got 93 of 100 points at 25m (27 yards). Of course it was SA shooting.

Now every time I'm gonna go hunting gonna be in dilemma which one to take with as a sidearm: this powerfull wheel gun w. 240gr/1350fps Fiocchi SP or mighty G20 w. 200gr /1250 fps Hornady XTP :dunno:

Anyway in my country you may hunt only w. rifle or shotgun, handguns may be used only for closeup SD against dangerous animal or mercy shot at wounded animal. So doesn't matter, gonna take them both

You may call me a traitor, my fellow 10-Ringers, but I couldn't resist a good opportunity.

Robert, I find no fault with anyone trying out other cartridges. What matters is that you are a 10mm follower! :) LOL

I cut my teeth with a simular gun the S&W model 29 with a 8 3/8" barrel, and took a nice deer at 180 yards with it using the factory target iron sights. In fact I just rounded up about 400 (once fired) brass to load for this monster! I cast several alloy bullets but really like the RCBS 240 grain Silhouette Gas Checked bullets. I have been driving these for years with 16.2 grains of Blue Dot but haven't clocked these yet!

    Best regards and good luck!

arushus, I will add that it went thru its heart! It doesn't get any better than that! I was much younger, had excellent eyesight and stronger in those days! Those were the days my friend!

Congrats on the .44 Robert, they are a lot of fun.

I remember a while back you where going to look into ordering Bear Tooth Bullets into Slovenia, are you able to do that?

If so, I'm having pretty good luck with two of their offerings the 250 gr. WFNGC and the 280 gr. WFNGC, running at about 1225 and 1150 fps respectively from my 4" S&W 629.

You could probably get an extra 75 fps or so with that 6.5" tube.

Congrats on the pistol I'll be picking up a Ruger Bisley Hunter here in a month or two... I miss my .44 (I had to sell it a few months back :crying:)

As for hunting, I only bring one pistol at a time. For deer, either would work. I might change it up for my OWN enjoyment but not because its necessary. I DO actually bring a couple pistols to deer camp or on my hunting trip in case something breaks I have a backup.

  8. I have sent a message to Beartooth company but no answer so far. In the meantime I found that Target Bullets from neighbor Italy offers some interesting 44 products as well.
