Stateside finally!
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to html coding and am lost on this!

Maybe you can lend a helping hand?

OK I have a Word document uploaded to my site and I want you to be able to click on the words "14 Bolt Bible" and then have the option of opening up the document with Word or downloading it.

The file is here on my vsever: /var/www/html/tech2/The14BoltBible.doc

Now what do I put for code that allows you to click and download it? So confused! I set it up so that tech2 folder is the place you go to put files so people can downlaod them like an anonymous ftp I think?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys! Thanks so much!

2. Something like:

Code:
LEFTANGLEBRACKET a href="tech2/The14BoltBible.doc">The 14 Bolt Bible Document LEFTANGLEBRACKET/a>

where LEFTANGLEBRACK is replaced by "<"

Assuming your DOCROOT of your web server is /var/www/html/

Ditto the above, but with the following advice:

If the web server is a *nix machine, pay attention to the case (upper/lower) of the file name you are referencing.

Keep the leading '/' before tech2 to avoid problems when inside subdirectories. That is to say, your href="/tech2/The14BoltBible.doc"

I greatly appreciate the help guys, but I'm still way confused.

I inserted the code where I think I was supposed to.

That's her right there.

Is there any chance one of you could look at my source code (there's not a lot of it) and see what you can do?

I really REALLY REALLY appreciate this guys!

Thanks so much and Semper fi

AoD,

Replace what you have for a link to the The14BoltBible to this:

<a href="/tech2/The14BoltBible.doc">The 14 Bolt Bible</a>

Part of the problem is using entities (&gt;) instead of the actual characters (>).

The Glock Talk thread software certainly doesn't lend itself well to explaining HTML! Also, some web page editing software (depending on the input mode [raw HTML or "Word Processor" style input]) chokes on these characters.

Lookin' good! Now all you have to do is convert those .doc files to PDF! :)
