New to Glocks and this forum. I have had my G17 Gen 3 for a few months. When I bought it from the store, the owner told me that is his 30 years experience that you really did not need to clean the gun the often, mabey every 300 to 400 rounds. He said too much cleaning cans cause problems and the gunsmiths have said they agree. But the Glock manual says to clean the gun after every use. Being a clean freak I do. I suspect problems are caused when people over use oil and grease. It seems beaking down the gun cannot cause wear. I use very little oil. Who is right and any high milage glocks out there that have been cleaned every use. Thanks.

Welcome! That advice is meant for those who abrasively clean their guns.

"You take care of it, it will take care of you".

Also, depends when you will go shoot again. Like I wouldn't clean it if I were going back to the range the next day. But if I'm going back to the range next month, then I'd make sure I clean it. It all depends also how lazy you are.

Safe Queen Glocks get cleaned every couple months. The shooters after each shoot...which is rare.

  4. I clean mine every time I use it.

    Every 10 minutes.

Just kidding. About once a month or after a range session/competition:wavey:

  7. Wait you have to clean them?

I normally clean mine each time I go out shooting, or if I am not shooting much (winter) but carrying it daily I will clean it every couple weeks.

    Been carrying mine 2 mths.
1500 rds through it and I have yet to clean it!
I think I will do it at 2500.

  9. Probably about every 200 rounds on a range gun.
For my carry gun, I clean it more often. I try to make sure that I have a drop or two on the barrel tip, the barrel hood, connector and a clean ramp.

After every couple matches, roughly 400 rounds. Once a month.

I go about 500 rounds and then throw it in the dishwasher...I know...horrible.

every other range session, so that every other week!, I go once a week "member" and shoot 100-200 rounds per visit. I feel i take very good care of it, and I always use discretion based on how dirty the ammo is shooting.

Shoot them and clean them like any other pistol. They break down easy and lend themselves to cleaning. The beauty of it is, they don't need that to remain functional.

Every couple of months I re-oil my carry pieces. If I shoot them, they get re-cleaned asap. I know they'll go bang if I don't, but I cant stand a dirty gun.

    Up a tree.
When the instructions in the owners manual from the manufacturer differ from what's coming out of the salesman's mouth - whether the product is a gun or a car or an electric toothbrush - ignore the salesman and go with what the manufacturers engineers decided to put in the manual.

Clean every gun after every use. If you can't do that without causing more harm than good, the problem isn't the idea of cleaning, it's the person who won't trouble himself to learn to do it right.

I clean mine after each trip to range, regardless of how many rounds I put through them, which is usually no less than 200rds a piece.
