Find a local dealer who's licensed to do the Single Shot Exempt (SSE). I too live in CA and I know of several people with Gen 4's, XDM's, & 1911's that are not on the CA roster.

I have a Gen4 and live in CA. Purchased mine with the afore mentioned SSE (Single Shot Exemption). It was a little tricky finding a gun store willing to sell them this way. I got the contact info from another member here. (mah77).

All I can think is, "why?" The earlier generations are just as good (better, according to Glock Talk) and probably have more manageable recoil springs for an inexperienced woman. If you want the changeable backstrap, get he an M&P compact - less prone to limpwristing issues and just as good - some say better. There must be hundreds of better "gun for your mom" choices.
