It is hard to say, but I would assume that the ammo scarcity will continue until we have a pro-gun POTUS.

  4. When ammo does start to return to normal stocking levels (I bet at least a year) prices will be higher and more people will start to build a base stock level that fits their need. More people will get into reloading so components will be hard to find for a while as well.

To actually answer your question, how high can you count? I, personally like to keep mine in the 1000's of rounds. As much for each caliber as I can.

Right now, don't you wish you had stocked up a bit more than around 600 rounds or so of ammo? Wouldn't you rather 1, 2 or 3000 in each caliber? Or More?

If you can't afford it, I wouldn't miss feeding the family or paying utility bills, but picking up a box or two here and there.

Whenever possible (in Walmart, find sales online, etc.) just stock up if you can. It pays dividends in times like this.
  6. Right...Ammo becomes more scarce, Everyone knows it POTUS :cool::cool:

2.7 billion if you want to match round-for-round with DHS.
  10. DHS means Department of Homeland Security. Am I Right?
  11. 2 year supply, then replenish half each year. Most cowboy matches are 120 CF rounds. IDPA maybe 170. This would also apply to reloading components.

I keep about (3) range session worth of ammo for firearms that I typically shoot.

Many asked themselves that question over and over again back in 08 when the "hope & change *started"....

`At present your shoes...get what you can when you can....and hold it.
    Good luck.
  18. Between hunting and pistol matches, it can take quite a bit. If ya shoot some of the practical pistol competition, ya have to practice to,keep your skills up. In the DFW area it would not be hard to shoot 3 or 4 matches a week.

Just for matches I budget for 3k 9mm a year for me and 1k for my wife. Last year I shot 5k 9mm.

I can guess that the "A" shooters must shoot 20k easy in a year. Pistol matches is not a cheap sport....nor an easy one.

If ya don't shoot 2k rounds a year, I dot think you are going to be a very good shot :). It takes practice
  19. Lots of ways to look at this. If you need to go mobile for some reason then you would only need what you can carry or if buggin in with help then thousands of rounds. SHTF aside, the way things are now my goal is to have at least 2K in each calliber on hand. IMO we are in for a Long dry spell on ammo and components. Every time I look at the expected arrival dates from Midway on ammo.....they get longer and longer. We are already looking at April to June on many callibers. I still think the demand will out pace the supply for quite some time.

Most matches in the New England area are 10 stages,so minimum 200,pistol&rifle and usually 2 boxes of shotgun shells should suffice. Times that for three or four matches a month and it would require a bit of ammunition.

To the OP's question theirs no such thing as to much ammunition. SJ 40

I reload the two calibers I shoot, 45acp & .357mag and I try to keep a .50cal ammo can full for each.
