It took my PD 8 weeks from the date I filed for my initial FID with 1 permit, to the date that they were ready for pick up. It will vary from department to department. The FID is issued by the Police Department in your town (or the State Police if you don't have PD for your town).

It took my local pd 30 days from the time I applied, to the day of actually receiving it, to get my permit. As for the amount of guns you can purchase in one month, I believe that is true. And I also think that the purchase permits expire either in 30 or 90 days. You should probably ask your local pd or wherever you applied, any info about receiving firearms from family.

There's no limit to the amount of permits you can get at one time, but in reality the limit would be 6 at a time. The permits are good for 90 days, but you can file for an extension to 180 days.
