If i remember correctly, mine took about 87 days from submitting my application to it arriving in my mailbox. Plain envelope, no correspondance, just the CWP. But then again, it's all I needed or really wanted.

Damn guys. That is encouraging. I am looking into a local class. Anyone have an opinion on the best place to take the course in Charleston area? ATP?

  8. well i was getting a little impatient so i called to ask about my application and i was told that the applications will not be approved before 90 days of receipt of the application. her words were "you know now days all applications will take 90 days and won't be approved before then".

  10. when i talked to sled they told me that it's 90 days from the time they receive the application. calculating the date that they told me mine would be approved shows that it's 90 days total to include weekends and holidays.

Took my class at ATP. Little expensive but it was 1 stop shopping. They do everything from picture to prints. Then they mail it for you. Instructor was good with lots of knowledge of the law and requirements.

Expect 100-120 days. That is how long it has been taking our students lately. It all depends on the backlog of apps at the time. I suspect that things will be easing up a little in the future.

My turnaround time was a little under 90 days. I sent my application off 7/24/08 and received my permit 10/15/08. The first time I mailed it off it went to SLED and was "returned to sender". Our instructor's forms were old. I mailed mine to SLED Public Dissemation or something. So I believe I could have actually received my a couple of wks earlier.

  16. I did mine course through ATP...but also had my fingerprint cards done at the Charleston County Jail. The fingerprint cards from the jail are digital and are much clearer than the ink version. I have heard that some applications get rejected because they can't read the fingerprint cards. BTW...it still took 89 days.

Same Same. Called on day 90 and they said it was just approved. They really are serious about the 90 day thing.

I teach at Trader World almost every Saturday... $50 (+$50 to SLED), I do everything but prints and mailing... a significant number of returns are due to print problems. Having LE do them is safest route. I also suggest sending them Return Receipt Requested. You know that it received.

So far this year, my students are running 89-95 days average. I have them notify me when they get it to keep track of SLED. Given the huge increase in apps, and considering the budget/personnel cuts, they doing a good job.
