How far forward should a red dot be mounted?

    Hi all,

Today I was messing around with my Eotech (just added the GGGAZ QD lever mount) and VLTOR I have on my black rifle (xcr) and I was considering playing around with where it is mounted on the receiver/rail now that I have flexibility in presenting the gun to my shoulder in relation to my head.

Ever since I've had it, I have it an inch or two forward of the breech. That was mostly due to the fact that the original stock was too short for me. But with the adjustable stock and easy mounting of the optic I got to thinking.

Is there a certain spot a red dot should be mounted ideally on a weapon? I really can't say I acquire the reticle faster with it mounted more forward or aft.

    TIA

I guess it would depend on the sight picture you wanted. Some people like to co witness the irons and some people dont.

You can't get here from there!
You should be shooting with both eyes open. You don't want to get tunnel vision shooting through the sight.

As far forward as possible is where most people mount them as it obstructs less of your vision that way.

    Regards,
