I could see putting some of that "thumb sucking stopping spray" on crayons. Its made to put on kids thumb and tastes really bad. (not sure in what way) with no aftertaste.
Spray the crayons, tell kid not to eat them. When kid takes bite/they spit it out, tell kid not to eat them.. Rinse, repeat. Kid decides they don't taste good...

If she had to force feed them to the kid, it doesn't sound like his habit of eating them was too out of hand.

What's the harm with the kid eating crayons? As long as he's eating his own it shouldn't be a big deal.

Yeah, and it will make going to the bathroom a lot more interesting. Imagine all the colors in the toilet....

Unfortunately, pica (eating objects that aren't food) is a real problem with autistic kids (and even adults). (coming from experience with a family member)

Adding a negative taste to objects being eaten is one of the ways to adjust the behavior. Some people call behavior adjustment 'punishment'.
Unfortunately, it sounds like "concerned parents" have taken to the media rather than look at the facts. Pica can kill a child. Hot sauce cannot.
In fact, you will find hot sauce to be...wait for it....FOOD.
    Edible.
    Made to be eaten.

IMHO, the teacher is getting shafted. Just read some of the comments after the article...yet another news article that's short on facts, long on emotion and hype.

Just shut up and perhaps study autism a bit. It's not funny and it's not an excuse for kids to run wild.
