How do you...G17 Gen 1 S/N AHxxxUS

Discussion in 'Glock Collector's Club' started by tpennin394, Feb 25, 2012.

  1. Mom passed away 12-31-11 and I just to opening the safe and found dads loaded Glock, he passed away in the early 90's after a long illness. A few days back I registered on Glock Talk to find its value. The clip being loaded so lone it lost some of it spring. Now the empty clip will not lock open the slide. How do I remove the clip spring and stretch it?

  2. You'll need to depress the small hole on the bottom of the floor plate with a punch/small screw driver, etc. then push the floor plate off from the back towards the front of the mag. It's not easily done and can be pretty tight. You might be able to stretch the spring, or you can by a new one for around $8 from a number of places online. Not sure how the current mag springs will match up with your gen 1 follower, someone else may know. Sorry to hear about your parents, that gun looks in pretty good condition and would be easy to sell if you ever wanted to. I would be interested myself.

  3. It's missing the hole.

I highly suggest you dont mess with those old mags. Those mags are what I (notice I said "I" for all of the Glock collector haters out there) consider to be "collectable". Keep the old gen 1 mags "as is" and buy some new ones for $25.00, if you want to shoot it. That Glock (AHxxx) was in the first few batches to be imported around Feb 1986.

    I agree 100%.

Stretching mag springs never works either. A spring relies on temper, wire diameter, and length. What you've really lost is the temper (which results in its failure to maintain length). Stretching it won't bring that back...

Do you have all the magazines and original box for it? If so you could easily trade it for a new one with a collector. (Don't try it at your local gunstore, though -- To them it's "old" & "used"...

  6. Please leave the springs alone and just buy some new ones. Sorry to hear about your dad passing. That is a Glock that you should never sell.

I am willing to send you two "brand new" mags in exchange if you are interested!

  8. Too late I stretched the spring before patcrad first post. will a new Glock SP 00448 spring work? Patcrat I have three clips two 17 rounds and one 17 +2 and it looks used. Thanks for the offer but I will sell the clips with the pistol.

  9. So much for sentimental value.

  10. You can't keep it all!

  11. Please sell it to someone, like in here, that can appreciate that Glock for what it is, even the box is collectible now days, sorry about your parents.

  12. I will and I have been getting bids.
