There was a good discussion going on in GNG that was touching on this subject.

How do *you* feel about using digital editing to get the feel your looking for?

Is digital editing the modern equivalent of 'advanced darkroom techniques' of ages past?

For instance, here's a photo I took and then edited to get what I wanted. The original straight from the camera was rather lackluster and blah. But the new version doesn't accurately reflect reality either.

Photography = "Writing with light". It is a medium of expression just like writing or painting or music. Unless you represent your photograph as documentary, you do whatever you want. It is your creation. Those who object should reject all paintings ever made, all books ever written, all poems, all music.

I see the value of it but I don't like it on *my* stuff. Mostly that comes from not really knowing what I am doing with it.

I will use it but I am not very good at it. If I were, I am sure that I would love it. :)

The difference between PS and working in the darkroom is there is no "undo" option in the darkroom. If you screw up, tough. You can't undo it and try again.

I'm a professional portrait photographer and I feel:

photography = capture + post processing

Without post processing (photoshop + other software) your images won't have the WOW factor.

That's interesting, clicking on the thumbnail in your post is not bringing me the full-size image. It actually doesn't do anything really.

I think mhambi accidently pasted a wrong URL. The correct one should be:
