Yeah, you're right, guns are illegal in the UK. It looks like that is what Obama, Hillary, and Feinstein want for our citizens. While they are rich enough to have armed guards, and some have CC licenses themselves, they want the rest of us to be unarmed so that we can't defend ourselves and/or our families.

So how is it that sentences of 17 and 14 years constitute "life" in jail? Do people die of old age in their 30's in England?

This only strengthens my desire to remain in constant ridicule of the British and their whole legal system. Those guys should have been sentenced in a place where "life" actually means the rest of your life.

Preferably with said time frame being measured in minutes.

In my state, you used to be able to get 'life' in prison, and be eligible for parole in 17 years. Same as in England.

BUT when a man who had murdered his wife came up for parole, and was released after the 17 years, the public outcry caused the politicians to take notice, during an election year, and the law was changed fairly quickly so that people sentenced to 'life', wouldn't be eligible for parole until they had served at least 34 years; double the time, under the old laws.

Also, sentencing guidelines were changed so that most people convicted of 1st degree murder, and LOTS of other violent crimes, are now sentenced to life in prison WITHOUT any parole.

There is still a revolving door for smaller scale felonies; drug crimes, property crimes and the like, but they have really cracked down on violent crimes, for the most part.
