thinking of switching to hornady critical defense ammo for my glock 23 40s&w. the reason i'm considering this is because hornady claims to avoid bullet setback on them, and i chamber and unchamber a round everyday after work and i do get paranoid if i'm chambering the same round too much. i carry speer gold dots 180gr. right now, do you believe their claim about bullet setback on their 40s&w rounds? here's a brief paragraph from their site..........
    • Unaffected by thick and heavy clothing, including denim and leather.
    • FTX bullet delivers superior controlled expansion and large, deep wound cavities over a wide range of velocities.
    • Clean burning and stable propellants reduce recoil in lightweight handguns, and perform consistently in all temperatures.
    • Minimal muzzle flash protects night vision.
    • Feeds reliably in pistols.
    • Shiny silver nickel plating prevents corrosion, and is easily visible in low light situations.
    • Bullets are cannelured and crimped to avoid bullet setback.
    • Bullets are custom designed for individual loads.
    • The most effective, consistent, and reliable self-defense ammunition available today!

I have the Hornady CD rounds in 9mm & have had no issues there, but I have no experience w/them in .40SW. I can offer a few things to consider, though:

I don't think I'd spend the $ & move away from the Gold Dots soley based upon what Hornady says their bullets won't do.

Have you experienced setback issues on a regular basis w/the Gold Dots?

I always keep a box of my carry rounds 1/2 full. When I feel like I've chambered/re-chambered a round 1 too many times, I'll drop it back in the box to see how it measures up against its unchambered brothers, then discard if necessary. It's not too scientific, but it works for me.

I'm interested in this expansion of the line. Critical defense started with lessor calibers and is now growing into actual defensive calibers. I had discounted the loadings previously will have to pay attention now.

Check this test out on the 9mm CD. I had picked up a couple boxes in 9mm when ammo was short & this was all they had. I liked the idea of it being offered in a true weight for caliber (unlike PowRball) so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm still carrying Win Ranger 127 +p+ in 9mm, but the video made me feel much better about a spontaneous purchase.
