I got those .44 mag rifle loads figgered out.

Actual weight of the SWC was 235 grains because I went with straight linotype. They clocked right at 1680 fps from my Marlin 1894. I shot the top 4 first, then noticed I had some wiggle in my stock. After I tightened the screw, I got the bottom three. That's what I get for messing with it. Anyway, the magic number was 19 grains of 2400, which makes perfect sense based on where I was with jacketed bullets and the fact these were a tad lighter.

Now I need to go get it zeroed at 100 if I can see that far. If I can do that before I leave town, I can use this gun to hit late season up at the in-laws' place. Hope to show you a buck when I get back.

    Weidmann's Heil!

Stevie - before you say anything, Ray gave me that fancy target to shoot. His CRB-ness hasn't fully matured yet.

I don't think you can hunt with a wooden stocked gun unless you look like Elmer Fudd. So I guess your safe.

    Hey Amigo !

    Good shooting Hoss !

I had to laugh when you said.... "I tightened the screw..'' ! HaHa.
I knew where that was leading to. Ha.

Well so what, I say ! Still a very nice group. You know what to do now. So when ya get that rear sight up where he needs to be, you'll be lookin good man.

I hear ya on the "seein things at 100yds +." I am now in that stage of life where I need reading glasses to see the sights, on hog legs or iron sighted rife, BUT, found a pair of drug store glasses that lets me see the sights and to infinity at the same time, so they are 'a must' for me with open sights out that far. With a good peep sight, I don't need the glasses. Maybe give that a try on your carbine 'next year,' when your not in a hurry to get things moving here for your trip to the folks place to hunt.

19grs of 2400 is nice from a 5" hog leg, and really gives good vels out of a cabine. Your groups show to have a good barrel and eye, even at 50yds, so man your lookin good out at 100 I'd say.

Good job, and good shooting amigo. Ya made your own bullets, and are shooting really good groups, and ya learned to sometimes leave a loose screw alone for a while ! haha.

Man I would have done the exact same thing. I see something wiggle or loose or move, and I get out the tools and go to work on it. Sometimes I've "UN-FIXED'' some things doin that ! ha.

You'll be fine though and looking forward to the ''Buck report" maybe over on the hunting forum. I posted a pic over there the other day of my brother and his little son out behind the ranch house here. It was his son's first buck while "still hunting." He culled out a nice little 8 pointer and he and dad are happy campers.

I have not had the time to shoot yet. the turkeys are priority to me right now for the Thanksgiving meal coming up. It is kinda of a "walk out the back and shoot one deal." If ya use a semi auto with a light weight FMJ and shoot for the craw, or the butt of the "folded wing," you never ruin one piece of meat.

Even a .22 at the base of the folded wing will drop a big tom DRT.

Then around end of December, into first week of Jan, I'll search the canyons from the rims for a nice buck maybe..

You have fun, and bring home some meat, and a good story.

Good job all around Steve !

I still figure Nissan Pathfinder has more hitting power than 19g Hercules behind a 235gr boolit, but ammo is cheap.

Would have been an easy shot, with a sling shot, but I'm too lazy to walk out into the pasture and drag him back in. Besides, Safeway still sells meat.

Not sure you'd want to eat the meat what grazes off your leach field anyway...
