OK, I used an automatic backup software to synchronize important files between two hard drives. Following my bone-headed set up, the software deleted a bunch of folders with files I need. I tried restoring but it wasn't possible. Is there a software to recover my deleted files? I know they're still there, just can't see them. Help

First to keep it from happening in the future, I would just move to a robocopy script. I use them all the time at work and on my home network and it works like a champ.

Second. Stop using that computer for now. The more new blocks you write to the HD the higher chance of over writing the block where your previous data is.

As for the recovery. I use File Rescue.

The best practice is to restore to a different HD or some kind of removable media. As again you can overwrite the blocks you want to recover.

Thanks guys. I'm running XP and just looked into file recovery SW and lo and behold there's a bunch of them. Looks like I'm not the only retard. HandyRecovery and R-Undelete seem to get recommended often. FileRescuePlus looks good too. I'll check out the demo versions and decide.

easy recovery professional is what i have used in teh past. it was able to restore files on a HD that had been formatted. its expensive though.

one thing about the free 30 day trials i've seen on recovery software... it'll show you what files have been deleted, but wont recover them until you pay for the program.

    best of luck.
