I've had a Springfield GI 1911 for 2 years. And I just don't like it. I don't like the grip, I don't like the thinness, I don't like the trigger, I hate manual safeties & the 8rd mags.

It shoots fine, but IDK what the appeal is. I just can't seem to get into shooting it.

I carry .40 Glocks. I like them just fine. They do everything I want & need.

Is there something maybe I should replace or add to it?

It sounds like you just plain don't like the 1911 and that's OK. There is no unwritten law that says you have to like them.

Maybe you should sell it and use the cash for something else?

    No harm done.

Go whap somebody across the face with it. You'd discover why an all steel pistol is better than some cheap plastic phantastic.

Noise factor. whop someone upside the head with a 1911 and they drop just as fast as a shot, but the loudest sound is them hitting the floor.

Not all platforms are for all people. I have more respect for a guy who can admit that a popular platform just isn't for him, than I do for those idiots I see running around with lights, lasers, magnifiers, red dots, forward grips, and such on weapons they don't know how to operate. (Not to say that everyone who owns a rifle like that fits the profile I'm describing, but many who own em' don't know how to run em').

I'd try to convince you to stick with the 1911 by talking up the single action trigger, the thin profile, and the abundance of ways you can personalize them. But, it seems as though you are aware of those attributes, and you still favor something else. I'd say life is too short to be stuck with a pistol you don't like. Sell it, and buy something that works better for you.

    Straight or arched MSH?
put on some VZ grips an an arched MSH and some high profile night sights..

The beauty is you can customize it a piece at a time till it is exactly how you like it.

I'm not going to sell it. Just because it's a 1911 & I think everyone should have one in their stable. I saw hogue makes finger groove grips. Maybe I'll try those to thicken the grip & see how it feels. I'm used to finger grove guns.
I have a Beretta too if I ever need to bash someone over the head. :)

You will like the Hogue finger groove wrap aronds. They feel great in the hand.

Does your gun have an arched mainspring housing? If it does, look into getting a flat mainspring housing for it. That would change the grip quite a bit.

It's not hard to make a 1911 thicker by changing the grips, and a trigger job would take care of that complaint. Not much you can do about the manual safety and the single stack mag though, without buying a different gun.

I'd say you have two choices. You can trade it for a thicker 1911 that holds more rounds (STI, Para-Ord, etc.), or you can stick to plastic guns that have no soul.

I would sell it , but I wouldn't give it away. Wait and get your price, might take a while. It took me about a year to sell my TRP, but i wasn't going to take a beating on it.

VZ Grips, Night Sights and an adjustable trigger job would make it nicer IMO

I'm just the opposite. A .40 Glock is probably the last gun I would ever want to own.

    You're the same as me.

I tried for a long time to force myself to like shooting 1911s.

I (like you) dislike everything that everybody else likes about 'em.

Too skinny, too heavy, safeties get on my nerves, trigger just ain't my cup 'o tea, don't hold enough ammo, generally a PITA compared to a Glock when I can run the Glock faster & better.

But they are very cool and I'll always one or two around.
