Went to the local mega-dealer yesterday to look at new bikes. Ended up in the used section. Sat on at 1992 ST1100 and it just felt right. 71k miles, new rubber, didn't hear it run, but there isn't a mark on it. They're asking $ 3,700. I'm thinking of offering $ 3,000. Any ideas, comments ?

    Thanks

It's known in Europe as the Pan European. Pretty good sport tourer, heavier than it looks like. Lots of police departments use it for their motorcycles. Fast and smooth.

If taken care of correctly, those things last forever. If you can get it for 3k, I think you would be doing well. I have an ST1300 and it is a great bike.

If you want a bike to commute to work/school, it'd be a great bike for $3000.

I'm sure there are a few Sport-touring forums around that may help with any model-specific issues with the ST1100 you may wish to research.

I've only had my Honda for 2 years, but I love it.

If you were in MN I would "take a look at it for you"....

Seriously tho, im a young guy thats into honda sportbikes big time but i would love to get...and been looking for a st1100 for around $3000....

Pretty much I'd buy it to take roadtrips out of state with the gf (who cant take much more than 200 miles at a time on a cbr)....but i probably couldn't take that much on the back of a sportbike anyway....

So i say buy it! If you dont like it you could sell it to me!

    Good luck man!

    Well, he who hesitates........................

I went to look at a Kawasaki Concours 14 today. Nice bike with a nice price too. Salesman then shows me a 1999 Triumph Trophy 1200 with 21000 miles for $ 3,800. SO, I put some money down to hold it for a few days while I do some research. Haven't found too much yet good or bad.

I put about 50k miles on a 98 ST 1100. Great bike. Wish I had never traded it. Went on many cross country trips. Advantage over the Trump is (for me anyway) shaft drive vs. chain. Big maintenance savings and on those long trips no need for oiling. The Trump is quite a bit quicker tho. Nice dilema to have, eh?

Good choice. That bike is going to be a modern classic. Sometimes a simple bike that does what it's suppose to do well is all you need.
