Im looking into my next firearm purchase. I have my Glock 30, which is my EDC. I love my G30 and would never get rid of it. Im looking into a G19 or a S&W 442 J-Frame. I have shot both and liked them equally. This being a glock forum may not be the best place to ask. So please help me out!

G19 16 rnds vs 5 also less recoil and more accurate. Can't remember last time I carried my J frame.

First of all asking someone that favors one gun over another isn't a bais opinion. You should go to a gun store find the guns you think you like and then put each of them in your hands and see which one feels the best. Once you find this gun then find out everything you can about it and see if it fits your needs. I would think everyone is different and you need to find the gun that fits you best. Just my two cents.

    I have a g23 and a g26 and a 442 as my carry guns.

I bought the g26 to replace my 442.

I'll go against the flow here-
if you can conceal a G19, you can conceal a G30. They are almopst identical in size. There are times where a j-frame S&W is the hot ticket. Everyone that carries on a regular basis should own one to compliment their main carry gun. In other words, carry the biggest gun you can, but sometimes a j-frame in the pocket is the best you can do.

I agree that an Airweight Centemmial S&W revolver makes a great deep concealment firearm & are really nice for pocket carry..
It really matters what you want the new gun to be for..
The Glock 19 is a hard to beat all around firearm..
    Good Luck in your quest!!

The classic answer is, of course, get them both. But to me a choice between them would be based on whether I ever could not carry the G30 but may be able to carry the 442.

A 442 in the front pocket is very very nice sometimes...You're going to eventually get both as they will both always be around...If it were me, for right now in the summer, i'd grab the j-frame 1st.

What kind of role are you wanting this gun to fill?

I'd go with the Smith, and for me it's a no brainer. The g19 is just replicating what you already have in the g30. The 442 can easily be carried in the front pocket of any pair of pants, and be concealed. It's my go to when a cover garment for my primary carry isn't possible. Mostly in the heat of the summer, and even hot days, I usually have on a t-shirt with some sort of cover for my concealed weapon.

I have both. My 642 is a 342 though. One of the coolest things about the 342 (or any J frame) I can think of is when riding a bike. If you use an Uncle mikes (number 3 or 4, either will work) and put the gun butt forward at your 3:30-ish position, when you bend forward on your bike, the gun still conceals. It is cheap insurance of always having something on you when you need it.

Edit: My 342 has the boot grips on it though, not the extended. The extended grips would not work as well in the example given above.

Had 442, sold it and got a Ruger LCR, as it has a better trigger, and doesn't bite my thumb, like the Smith.

A 442 was my choice last summer.

    I love it.

I carry it holstered in my front right pocket and keep a 4" Springer Champion in an IWB on my right hip.

    Gotta love the combo.

I'll be rotating the Springer for a Gen4 G30 when they are available.

    Good luck.

Having both (well actually all 3 including the G30), I would recommend the G19 unless you need a gun for when “you aren’t carrying a gun”.

The Glock 19 is one of the finest handguns ever produced in my opinion. Big enough to shoot all day comfortably, small enough to conceal, 15+1, 9mm so ammo is less expensive so you can shoot and train more.

I love the G19, but it's too close in size to your G30. I'd go with a G26, LCR or J Frame.

I am waiting for my crossbreed supertuck to arrive and when it does I will start carrying the G19. I pocket carry my .38 LCR every minute of everyday. That was a smart purchase. I will probably still carry it as a BUG after my holster arrives.

    G26, G27, or G33 !
Even the 9mm has twice the power as a .38 Special.

I tried the LCR in both .38 and .357. I can pocket or IWB carry my Kahr PM9 (or the new less expensive CM9) better than either revolver. I think of the Kahr as a mini Glock with a DAO revolver trigger.

Everybody needs a revolver. Just my opinion.
