I will be buying myself a new toy very soon and need to know if there are any considerable differences between these two models. I mainly want a gun that shoots cheap ammo for plinking/target shooting.

Just depends on which grip you like best, or if you like all metal or polymer frame. I've owned both and like both so it doesn't matter to me. I'll say this though. I had a 22/45, with a 4" bull barrel that I mounted a cheap BSA red dot scope on that at 21 feet was SCAREY accurate. That thing would shoot one hole groups all day long with cheap bulk pack ammo. I'm sure it would have at longer ranges too, but my range only has 7 yard lines.

Let me offer this advice. Look used. I picked up an old Ruger Standard, with a 6" barrel, and fixed sights, with box and papers yesterday for less than $200.00.

Own both...sold the 22/45. The 22/45 just wasn't that accurate for me. I had all tactical solutions stuff on it and it would shoot around a 2 inch grouping at 10-15 feet. My mark iii hunter however...will shoot less then an inch at 50 feet.:eek::eek:

My Mark III will shoot 2 inch groups at 50 yards...from a rest, with MiniMags.

The MkIIIs got a button mag release by the trigger too. MkII has the heel release.

Thanks for your replies. After looking around, the Ruger 22/45 is not available locally. I have only seen a lot of MarkIII's and several Browning BuckMark. So, I braught home today a Brawning BuckMark. I can't wait for tomorrow to go to my father in law's ranch to try it out.

Buckmark triggers are head and shoulders over current factory Rugers.
