Help me choose my first 1911

Discussion in '1911 Forums' started by 21/4life, Feb 1, 2012.

  1. I have been a glock man since '93. I recently shot my son in law's 1911. It felt really good shot well with it. I have the bug now I want to get one. Where do I start I like his 4" what can I get for a good price and good quality. I am in California so I am limited the Doj list. Thanks.

  2. I want to keep it under $1000 😁

  4. Are your Glocks 9mm? I sure wouldn't discount the 9mm's if you just want one for fun or IDPA, that sort of thing. Check out the STi's. I have a few of them and have always been happy. Springfield if you want a .45, Kimber is often over looked. I love their 4" 9mm. If you want to shoot gun games there are some divisions that require you shoot .45, barrel restrictions, size, sight or add on limitations. All sorts of things. Tell us more.

I did notice that the list did include some of the Rock Island Armory (RIA) 1911s. These are made by Armscor in the Phillipines. This is a brand you may want to take a look at. These are good quality 1911s at bargain-like prices. For $1000, you could buy two of them. They have several models to choose from, of which includes a Mid-Size (4" bbl). I personally own six of the RIA 1911s along with several other 1911s made in the Phillipines. These are excellent pistols for the money.

  8. Kimbers are really nice but over my budget. I've seen the RIA but non of small shops have any selection of them. The 3 shops ive seen them they were all 5 " and all different models. They each had one.
