Greetings! My name is Fred. I am an American expatriate living in Kuwait. On September 1st, I will be visiting the Philippines to finally get married to my fiance of two and a half years. While I am visiting, I would love to take her and my soon-to-be niece in-law shooting. My question is, how do I go about doing this?

I will be in Manila for a few days upon my arrival to do some paperwork at my Embassy, then I think we will be traveling to a resort town (whose name escapes me right now, maybe Bagio, or something similar?) to visit with family, then up to Illocos Norte to prepare and have the ceremony.

If anyone has any ideas on where I may take these ladies to teach them the joys of shooting, please help me out. It should be someplace that has rental firearms, as of course I will have none of mine with me. Also, I would love it if perhaps I could run into a few of my fellow Glock Talkers while I am there, so if any of you have regularly scheduled meets, let me know!

Thanks for your help, and God Bless!

    Fred

Hmmm...good question. I did not think to ask what area my kuya's house is! I think I will have to get back to you on that. Right now my asawa is sleeping off her 12 hour bus ride back from Illocos, so I will check tomorrow.

Thanks for the help, sir! Now, what is Armscor?

    Sir,
Armscor is an arms manufacturer in the Philippines.
All kinds of info on the net & here in this forum.
Good luck on your trip...I'm Pinoy but based in Wash DC area.
I was just back there in the Philippines last April but
didnt get the chance to try any of the ranges. Stay safe on your
trip & just be yourself. Youll be fine. Make sure to try the
    Balut..he, he.

    Hi, welcome to BOGs.

I'm pretty sure there are ranges in Ilocos Norte. We have one member here, Niven I think who is Ilocos Norte based. \

here's some info regarding Armscor shooting ranges:
    http://www.armscorshootingranges.com/ranges/

when i brought my brother in law (also an American) to Armscor last may, we were advised that there's a special rate for foreigners. i paid $50, which includes 50 rounds of ammo. pretty ridiculous, but i had to suck it up because my bro in law was looking forward to the experience (he's a new yorker who hasn't fired a gun before)

my suggestion is for you to go to BOGs-friendly ranges where there's a good chance that this stupid special-rate-for-foreigners thing can be waived. i'm thinking of Firepower (operated by a very nice and accomodating engineer) and WSC (owner is a BoGster and pinoyguns.com member)

    IH8Q8,

Welcome. If you have asian looks and can speak tagalog or taglish, then act like a pinoy to avoid the ridiculous charges;)

    Mabuhay ang bagong kasal!

Do all your paperworks and marriage thingies first then think of shooting.

Getting a traditional marriage in Ilocos is not a walk in the park. Get ready for a week long celebration and the whole barrio on your doorstep for free booze.

I'm just kidding. Welcome to BoGs.

Oh, hell, you are starting to scare me!

I don't think that we are getting to traditional with the wedding, but I may be mistaken. I know I am being coerced into wearing a Barong Tagolog, but I think the ceremony will be mild. The decision for Ilocos Norte was because of the location; nice resort close to her home where she grew up. I am a rather quiet person, and hoping for something sedate, myself. It is, however, her day, not mine. I do not drink, either, so that may be a good thing. If the whole baryo shows up on my door, that might be a good time to start drinking...

3Kings, We will be staying at Vito Cruz, Manila. Then Bagio City for a while, then Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

9mx, I don't think I will fit the picture. Six foot Italian at 135kg with hair down his back and tattoos? Hmmm....maybe not! The language may be a stretch, too. I am trying (desperately!) to learn Tagolog with the assistance of Rosetta Stone language lessons, but I hit a wall weeks ago and the asawa has been at home for two months. Oops!

(Hey, Toledo, I'm not Sir, that was my dad! I'm not old enough for that yet. Just Fred, please!)

Tagaykoyan (and Toledo), thanks for the hears up on the arms manufacturer. That is a crazy price! I will admit I have never paid to shoot yet, as I am blessed with a buddy who has a range. But $50? Talaga? That's nuts! Well, it does include the rental gun, but still. Now, I shall investigate PinoyGuns too. Didn't know about that, thanks!

PMMA97, Salamat! That means alot to me, brother. Perhaps pray for her, though? I don't think she knows what she is getting into yet, even after two years! Poor girl. We live a calm life in Kuwait, because there is nothing to do, but at home I am a trucker, biker, and shooter. She should be scared, very scared!

G19c,ph thank you for that suggestion. Is this someplace my girls can get into, or is it restricted? I think I will be looking for someplace close to a home-base, though.

Revo, I am almost scared to ask!

To all of you, thank you for the warm welcome! I hope that perhaps I can run into some of you. Let me know if ideas pop into your head on places I can go. Salamat po!

Dear Lord, Armscor wants $100 now! I think I will stay clear of that one! Their rates are posted on the website. Yikes!

    :outtahere:

edited to add; Hey, G19c, I am re-thinking your suggestion after seeing the range pics on pinoyguns.com. Wow, nice place!

Also, 3Kings, are you the same 3Kings in the pics of the shooting competition at Eagle there at Clarks?

If you will be staying in Laoag, try visit Fort Ilocandia, a 30-min ride (depending on the time of the day) from the city proper. They have outdoor pistol range, not far from the hotel. And yes, they have rentals, just make sure the pistol is safe to shoot. I'm sure the price is way cheaper than $50.00.

You and the 'asawa' can stay for the night and take a chance at their casino; if you don't drink then checkout their live band at one of their clubs. Of course you can always change your mind and try their 'basi'.

Maybe the best way is let a fellow glocker buy ammo (give them the dough) and you all can shoot . No need to rent. I m sure a lot of glockers here will offer.
