I'm not one for taking spikes but when I saw him coming through, I figured what the heck. Horns measure 10 1/2". Taken today (11/15) at 125 yards with a 30-30. :)

David, pretty neat. You make the best jerky I ever had. What did you bring it down with?

Nice spike! I also took a spike on Saturday morning with a 30-30 but a Winny 94. I thought it was a doe when I fired as it was in a creekbank in low light. Seemed decent sized but I was a bit disappointed when I found him. I don't like shooting young bucks either but hey, beggers can't be choosers. Halfway through the season and its only the second deer to even give me a shot!

Congrat's on the deer! What part of VA were you hunting?

I got a small button buck last week, thought it was a doe, my buddy shot first and missed, so I knocked it down with my muzzleloader. We were hunting national forrest in Bedford county. Usally hunt in Craig county though.

Hey David, you mentioned the jerky and last night I bought some jerky from the store. I tried a piece and gave the rest of the bag to the dogs. They loved it. To me it was like chewing shoe leather or plastic. YECCCHHHH! No taste at all. I used to love the stuff.:(

  8. Do you think he's 1 1/2? Probably eating pretty good.

    Nice deer.

Warren County...if you look at Virginia as a triangle, I am just about as close the the upper point as you can get.

Yea, probably a second year. He only weighed 110 after being field dressed but he will make for some tender eating. I process them myself so I will make a large portion of it into jerky since I give a lot of jerky away as christmas presents. I'll worry about steaks and ground venison on the next one.

    Nice spike!

I killed a little 4 point back in late October. Haven't had much luck since...;Q

Anyway, he should make for some fine eating.

    Congrats!
