Just picked up my new build. Went with a 15" Troy/VTAC Alpha rail on a 16" Rainier Arms middy barrel, BCM Mod0 Compensator, Fail Zero NiB-X BCG.

I wanted to put some sort of minimalist hand stop on and I was supplied with a Magpul XTM Hand Stop Kit but after getting it home I realized I couldn't get it to mount flush to my tube- if I want it I need to mount a 5" section of rail below and i don't like how much it sits off the tube. Is there a way to "customize" the kit or at least the actual hand stop piece of it to sit flush? Or do I just trade/sell it for something else that will? Any pics of hand stops on VTAC Alpha rail? There are several others I like(Larue) but not sure which, if any, will do what I want.

Impact Weapons Components makes a hand stop that mounts directly to the tube, no rail segment required.

Easy Larue Handstop Mod to fit flush on VTAC rail with pics

They are sold in twos so you'd have an extra.

Most handstops designed for non railed forearms are more for competition bracing at barricades or as true handstops that are in between you and the muzzle. The mentioned IWC mount-n-slot handstop is one of the better designs but not as a grippable/ index behind the hand 6 o'clock handstop.

I really like a single larue handstop at 6 o'clock. Without modification they take a 4 slot rail section. I'm duracoating my new build but will be modifying one for the samson evo rail and the hole is just right for the hardware.

As noted above, IWC is a great handstop and makes them to attach directly to almost all the tube-style handguards.

Thanks for the replies. I heard about the IWC awhile back but couldn't remember the name for anything. I've always liked the Larue hand stop but figured it to be similar to the Magpul XTM in that it too would require a section of rail to attach- that modification looks like the answer. Thanks again.

I rigged a Magpul Speedplate on my Alpha Rail. Might work for Vtac.

  11. i have a similar YHM customizable tube. i placed my pistol light at 12 o'clock and a magpul RSA sling adapter behind it. i use the RSA as a handstop. keeps the sling tight and works great as a handstop. my thumb rests above to actuate the light and fingers below wrapped around the tube.
