Sweet! So, when are you headed to the flea market with these?
I bet they would sell pretty quick.

I found some dog tags that were used on key rings for the old equipment in a scrap metal recycling plant. They were marked with things like...

    Main power
    AUX #2
    Conveyor #1
    HDPE Shredder

Basically everything in the old plant had a safety key.

I found one that said MASTER and some that said SLAVE #1, SLAVE #2 SLAVE#3 Etc.

I put MASTER on my keyring and gave SLAVE #1 to my wife on a necklace as a joke.

    It did not end well.

That is awesome. How did you know how much power* to use? Did you do a test on some similar material first? That came out perfect.

    * Or whatever is adjusted.

practice on other pieces of scrap wood, trial and error. I think it looks better on red/darker wood then a blond wood.

When you are holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

When you have a new laser engraving machine....everything looks like it could use some detail work. I think it would take me a long time to run out of ideas and applications for such a tool.

What type of laser is it?
I have only played with (manually operated) YAG lasers at work, all my tools got marked.

Have you tried doing it under a blanket of inert (welding) gas to see if it affects how much the wood discolors from oxidation instead of just heat?

Does your brother have a specific need for this machine?

Sounds like you could make some dough with it just playing.

We (mom, brother and I) have been doing Glass etching/carving (sandblasting), and stained glass for MANY years. My brother recently decided it was time for a job change and got this and started a small business....trophies, awards, plaques.....heck about anything anyone wants as far as engraving goes.

The Molonlabe stuff is me since I have that website. really need to spend a weekend and totally revamp the website. There are so many areas to go into, it is hard to decide just which direction to go. but we like doing the dog tags, and actually are going to do a "Memorial Dog Tag" were we put a picture on the front side and if the person was military, we can engrave the back the same as there real dog tag....or whatever someone else would want. it is really neat how well a photo looks on these tags. will see if I can get a got picture of one we did.......heck does not even have to be a Memorial tag, kids, loved ones, pets.....any picture.....it will be black white of course.

Lighter wood reflects more of the light. Darker surface absorbs more light.
