    Hello friends
I just traded for my first 1911. It is the SS S&W 1911 #108282. I wanted some wood grips with some HEAVY checkering. I was thinking about the Altamont rosewood snakeskin. What do you guys reccomend? THANKS!!!!

thecableguy - I truly appreciate the recomendation (really, I do!), but I don't checker, let alone HEAVY checker.
Esmerelda has beautiful wood grips, and they're checkered, but it's laser checkering and isn't very deep. You might check her out though and see if she has anything that interests you. My best suggestion if you want rough and more rough, is check out VZ grips. They have some very aggressive patterns that will skin a catfish pretty quickly. They are not wood, but you may fall in love with them anyway.
    Good luck!
    And thanks again thecableguy!

No problem Sarge. I am going to be calling you soon about a set for my WC when I get it in.

If I need wood, I think of Esmeralda!
If I need a micarta grip, I always get a set from Larry Davidson!

Esmeralda had a nice set of Snakeskins last week. It was the first time I can recall seeing them on there. You may want to check to see if they are still around.

    Update - Still there:

Brace yourself for the sticker shock that will come with those Esmereldas. If you aren't deadset on wood, check out VZ. They have a lot of different choices in terms of how aggressive your checkering is. As mentioned, give Larry D a look. His grips are fabulous. My favorite G10 grips.

Yeah for G10 grips, Larry Davidson is hard to beat. VZ makes several nice one's too. Sarge and Esmerelda are the go to places for wood grips by a good margin.

Sarge made me a set of ivory micarta that aged a bit, looked like vintage ivory, sans the cracks

Ive bought two pairs from esmeralda. They are not very aggressive as far as grip, but they are high quality. I like 'em.

i like plain and simple Ahrends Combat Checkered Cocobolo grips, which are similar to what the Springfield Professional (as well as older Springfields) and Baer use.
