Got to shoot a Nighthawk T3 yesterday

I was at the range yesterday - shooting my Custom Shop Springer (I also went on Saturday and shot it). Anyway, some guy was shooting a new T3 Nighthawk (it was his first range trip with the gun). When I asked him about it, he offered to let me put a few rounds thru it.

I had never shot a gun with Heine sights before. I prefer 3 dot sights, but the sights worked well. I HATE big dot sights, but the Heine sights were not bad... Better than I thought they would be.

The guy claimed he wished he had gone with 3 dot sights on the gun, though. He said that was the only change he'd make.

Anyway, the guns hot pretty nice. I'm really only into fullsize 1911s, personally. But, the recoil wasn't bad. His only complaint was that the casings were getting scratched by a mag catch that was too long (he claimed it was rubbing the rounds as they moved up the mag). That's a new one on me, but he showed me tiny scratched on the case lips on unfired bullets.

Anyway, if I buy any future semi customs, it will likely only be from Ed Brown or Springfield custom, but it was a very nice gun.

    I hear they're very nice.

I wouldn't buy one simply because it has a shorter grip.

Yea, this is true. It comes with a cool magwell at the bottom, though. But yea, I prefer fullsize grips. I also like the lower recoil of a fullsize model.I will admit to being tempted on some of the 4" sized Kimbers a few times. But I haven't had the best luck with Kimber, and after owning 2 semi customs (sometimes I wonder if the Springer Custom Shop qualifies as a full custom, but I guess it doesn't), I don't care to buy another standard production model anymore.

How would I have pictures of someone else's gun who let me put a mag thru it :rofl:

I was also on a quick trip - I got there 30 min before they closed to shoot 100 rounds thru my own gun.

I offered to let him shoot my Springer Custom, but it was close to closing time, and he wanted to get some more time in with his gun.

Well, there was only like 10 minutes left before they chase ya off the range 5 min before closing at 6pm. So, I understood where he was coming from.

And, I was running out of time myself, and I almost didn't shoot his gun, because I wanted to finish the rounds I had with my own gun. I've been on a Beretta kick for the past year, so I only just hit the 1100 round mark with my Springer Custom yesterday (I've had it since the end of summer 2009)

I've had people offer to let me shoot their nighthawks a couple of times before, though, and I didn't want to let this chance pass me by...

He was claiming he was going to file a little metal off the inside of the mag catch, and he was trying to check for any other bugs.

It had a black finish, but the range is pretty dark (indoor range), so I didn't really notice if it was permacoat or their black diamond finish. I didn't expect to have him offer me a turn with the gun. I just wanted to see what he had.

What model is that? (I keep up with the Ed Browns and some of the other brands, but haven't looked at all the Nighthawk models lately?

    Nice barrel.

^ cool concept. But it's a little less effective w/ a shorter sight radius with the new location of the front sight on the commander length slide.

And their "blended magwell" is a little stupid, since it almost brings the grip back to full grip.

    That's the whole point though.

They wanted to offer a magwell, without it making the grip longer than standard.

    I suspected as much.

I had a Springfield PDP Defender for about 10 years. The comp made the gun so loud that I wouldn't want to shoot it indoors for self defense. I would have even more hearing damage than normal. It was usually one of the loudest guns at my indoor range.

the innovative thing would to offer a magwell without extending the grip, then it would be a true CCO.

That would be a Heinie magwell.

The magwells Liebenberg uses also don't extend the grip.
