Hey guys, I am considering a SOCOM M1A and wondering what most people stack high and deep.
With my AR my go to ammo is XM193. It shoots well out of my 6920 and I know it is effective on BG's out to 150 ish yards.
It would be for SHTF and range.
    Thanks:wavey:

I go for precision, but it is expensive. If I were to purchase 308, it would be Black Hills 175gr. I cannot remember the military designation from their precision 7.62X51, but it is pretty good. I reload for my AR-10 so I cannot be much help.

I have owned most of the common 7.62 battle rifles at one time or another. Most of my rounds have been fired through FAL rifles and carbines until recently, and through my SCAR 17 for the last year. I did like my M1A Bush Rifle. It was a little more ammo sensitive than my FALs and my SCARs, but had great sights and a great trigger. Though some would argue this point, I don't feel there is a good way to mount conventional optics though. Either use something forward mounted, or just use irons.

I just finished my last South African surplus. It was very good stuff, but the supply has pretty much dried up. After that, I found a small batch of Australian surplus. It was pretty good too, though a bit less accurate. My British surplus was about the same as the Aussie. I recently stocked up on German surplus. It is wonderful stuff. It is the most accurate surplus ammo I have ever used, and is fully waterproof with crimped primers. I can highly recommend it, and will buy more if I find some at the right price.

I also have some Winchester 168 grain Ranger OTM, and a pretty good stash of Federal American Eagle 168 grain OTM. The Federal is good. The Winchester Ranger is exceptional, but you do pay for it.

Thanks guys, I was looking for cheaper stuff to stock up on. I think I'll look into the German stuff.

I have a nice M-1 that I had rebuilt in .308/7.62mm. The very best results I had was with Radway Green. It was fully equal to any USGI surplus ammo I fired. The German and Portuguese were very good as was the South Africian. I have not and will not use any of the Pakistani ammo in either 7.62mm or .303 British. It is simply not worth using. My LGS has a couple of bandoleers of Radway Green for $39/100 rds. I figure this is a good price. HTH. Sincerely. Brucev.
