Glocks handle the 10mm fine -- how are the 357sholding up?

Discussion in 'TOP GUNS *357 Sig* Club' started by scotty45, Jan 22, 2013.

  1. Seen some stuff but can't search and find much now...

Some said that Glock frames aren't handling higher round counts with the hotter 357 Sig load, but it's hard to believe since the 10mm is built to last? But that is a heftier frame.

How are your 357 Glocks holding up and can you share maybe how many rounds and which model and generation are you shooting?

    Thanks!

I have a Gen4 G23 and this past weekend I tested out a .357sig barrel in it. The gun has 1150 rounds of .40 thru it and 500 rounds of 9mm. I put 200 rounds of WWB 125gr FMJ and 50 rounds of hot Underwood 125gr GD thru her. I was surprised at how well the gun handled .357. It didn't feel too much hotter than the .40 cal... Maybe it's that Gen4 RSA. :dunno:

I've got a ton of rounds through a G33. It's still going strong. So whoever told you that 357SIG wouldn't hold up is just running at the mouth.

I must admit I have had to replace parts, my SECOND set of ear plugs under my ear phones

  6. Thanks for the info and stats, gang! Still undecided on the platform but the noise factor is duly noted since I'm liking 10mm as well. If I get a G20/29 and get a .357 barrel for it I know that THAT gun won't wear out anytime before I do. My face will likely wear out from grinning first. :D

G31, gen 4. Over 2K rounds, almost 50% of that with Underwood and MBI loads out of an extended barrel. I've also shot the Underwood gold dots (nearly 1600 fps out of the 5.3" barrel). Gun functions flawlessly and little sign of wear.

Makes a big bang - I'm often asked what I'm shooting at the range. Ejected brass from the Underwood loads nearly make it to the back wall :)

I had very high hopes with Underwood GD. Planned on carrying it actually, until I had 4 light strikes on the first box I put thru the gun last weekend. Totally unacceptable for carry, I still have 100 rounds on hand, maybe I'll give them another shot... But there would have to be ZERO problems in te next 200...

Purchased 250 of the Underwood GD's very recently. Made it through 150 so far without issue.

Yes it was. 125gr Gold Dot. I'm going to blast thru another 50 as soon as I can and see how it goes. What worries me is that right before the Underwood, I ran 200 rounds of WWB with no issues. Maybe I'll shoot Underwood an email...

Which is your 357sig? Your M&P? Or do you have a conversion barrel? I have had one or two issues with 38 spcl ammo from Underwood (what I would consider practice ammo -125g FMJ) but never the 357sig. Its important to test and trust the ammo you are going to carry!

My G23 with a G32 barrel. Factory OEM, not a conversion.

I carry the G23 in .40 as my primary. Before carrying any weapon that I would consider my primary firearm I run at least 300 rounds of FMJ and at least 2 mags of premium defensive ammo to make sure the gun will cycle them reliably. In addition, I run whatever ammo I carry thru the gun every few months to ensure reliability, etc.

My plan for .357sig was to test 300 rounds of WWB 125gr, then 100 rounds of Underwood (because it's so cheap!). If it went off without a hitch, and I liked the feel of the cartridge, I might carry the gun chambered in .357 over .40.

The fact that Underwood Ammo is less than a half the cost of Winchester PDX-1 was reason enough for me to try them out. The fact that I can buy a 50rd box VS a 20rd box for the same price, would allow me to practice more with the round I carry...

I believe PDX-1 is just the civilian version of Winchester Ranger bonded - sold in boxes of 20 rather than 50. Ranger Bonded is one of the loads I carry. This may be a good option for you:

I have a Gen 2 G32 with around 7k +/-, and the only thing I've changed is recoil springs. Just factory WWB, Speer Lawman, and Gold Dot mostly. Haven't tried any bulk stuff, and unfortunately don't reload.

I can't remember the details on why but didn't New Mexico State Police switch to the M&P in .357sig from the Glock 31?

    Poohgyrr trout fear me!

I heard in an online internet forum that Glock 357Sigs are blowing up left and right. Austria is working overtime to figure out why, but right now no one knows.

Lucky for you guys, I can inspect your Glock 357Sigs. So, just deliver all of them to me, in person, and I will get right on that. Don't ship them, because that requires documentation and that is a hassle. Just drive them right to my back door.

I expect to return them as soon as possible too.

Hurry up and bring them to me right away!

Yeah, I read that also. It seems their police needed an external safety as they couldn't learn to keep their finger off the trigger.

Gen 2.5 G33 stopped counting after 5000 rds several years ago. Probably well over 7500 rds and still going strong. I have replaced the guide rod.
