Let me start by saying I have only been into firearms for about 6 years, pretty much a baby to the hobby. I know a lot of my current knowledge is internet based but its definitely safe to say Glock's reputation is hurting.
For work at my old job, I carried a Glock 21 and it was made in 2006 and it was flawless. I liked it so much I decided to get a G30 to go with it, made in 2007, it too was flawless. Now I'm in the market for the gun, everyone needs the G19! Everyone says that is the ONE GUN, so I decided to start my papers here in NJ. I put in for two permits and I first purchased a S&W 642 (Love it) and now I have to wait a month before I can make a second purchase. I decided it HAS TO BE a G19 and my LGS has a G19 FDE Gen 4.
I know I am taking a major jump here from what I have read on the internet and done research on with BTF issues. The problem is my desire to own a brand new and not so common G19 FDE that I can call my own. The sad thing is I am already planning on BTE and looking at the APEX extractor for purchase because I want it to run flawlessly like Glocks in the past were from the factory. It worries me and is sad that GLOCK PERFECTION has me so hooked that I am buying something that isnt necessarily perfect anymore but the love for a G19 has me.

If you're so worried just get an M&P. Their 9mm double stack is awesome and yes flawless....at least for me.

Be sure to post how it works out for you.

Would suggest to hold off on the extractor until you've had a chance to run it as is...

my gen4 26 has no brass to the face issues. give it a try before spending the 60 bucks on the apex. Not everyone has the issues, and its hard to say how widespread the issue is.

The shocker to me is it may run flawless for 1000 rnds and then go south. It seems like around 1000 rounds is the magic number.

Yep...mine ran fine UNTIL about round 800 or so. This is a 3rd gen G19 made in April of 2012.

You might want to read up on the M&P full size 9mms on other web boards before you race to that platform. Besides needing the Apex trigger...they are having accuracy problems.

Don't own one myself but reading several pages of threads will keep me from buying an M&P. Too bad...I also wanted an option. Right now, the PPQ and P-30 seem to be "winning" the 9mm polymer pistol category.

    Research before buying.

I think right now you roll the dice no matter what you buy. I had an M&P Full Size 9mm that would group 8" to 9" all day long at 25 yards (sarcasm off now).

It depends on how badly you want that G19. I bought a G19 Gen 4 that was so unreliable, even after replacing parts, I had to dump it. I wanted one so badly I bought another one, which is much better. Some might call me a fool for risking making the same mistake twice, but I'm glad I did.

Hopefully yours will be fine when you get it. Don't forget alot of people have new Glocks without issues. Maybe just not quite as high a percentage as with new Glocks a few years ago.

Go ahead and get a Gen 4 G19. It will be just fine.

No matter what you still want the Glock so go for it. I was hearing the same stuff on the Gen 3 G19's. Mine is fine.

I have a Gen 4 19 FDE and have over 2k rounds through it. I have maybe 10 BTF and as far as I'm concerned its not an issue. I just bought another 19, Gen 3 RTF2 and it has been flawless for the 400 rounds put through it.

Buy it, shoot steel-case Russian ammo at the range (I'm very serious) and load 'er up with good premium self defense ammo for carry.

My Gen4 G17 has been fed nothing but Russian (over 2K rounds), and has never failed, case ejection is 5-6 feet to my right rear.

(I'm really liking Russian ammo, never thought I would ever use it....my new Savage .308 LOVES it, more accurate than the box of premium stuff I picked up!)

I feel your pain...I really don't want to purchase a newish glock anytime soon. I actually picked up an full size M&P...not sure if I like it or not.

You should look at the Walther PPQ. I recently got one and I really like it a lot. It feels better in my hand and has a better trigger than a stock Glock. I was shooting better groups with the PPQ right out of the box than I was with my G17 I have had for a few years.

I hate to admit it, but I was driving tacks with my M&P 9 today... First time I've ever really shot one and I was much more accurate than my g19.

My gen 3 19 made in april 2012 is flawless.

Dont let the e-hype over the BTF junk ruin glock for you.

Im planning to buy a gen 4 19 FDE this xmas.

    :headscratch:

You haven't bought it yet but you are already fixing a problem that most likely will not occur? :animlol:

After pointing that out I feel no further comment should be required.

I tried the M&P but didn't like it. Picking up my Gen 4 G26 saturday. See how that goes but wont make any changes until i have a few boxes of ammo through it first.

Im sure im probably worrying over nothing, i do hope that a few bad apples from glock don't reflect the whole bunch. It just seems like the internet and these forums have every other comment relating to BTF lol
