I have two Glocks - a G20SF and a G27. How can I tell which Generation they are? Is there a serial number range or something like that?

You can usually tell by the grip style. The Gen2 versions don't have finger rests, while the Gen3s do. Also, I believe the baby Glocks have a different Gen system as they were never made without finger rests on the grip.

There is probably a way to tell by the serial number, but I'm not sure how.

Just looking at the grip, the Gen 4 includes a removeable backstrap.

Thanks for the info, but my roughly-ten-yr-old stock G27 has the finger rests, so I assume it's Gen3.

The sub compacts are only in the third generation.
The early subs did not have checkering, on the front strap, between the finger grooves. These are commonly referred to, as 2.5 Gen.
