What makes you think that a High Power is not fit for serious work?
I don't find it less accurate or less reliable than early CZ75s.

Glocks an OK gun, but I'll take a CZ75 B over it everyday of the week.
I've owned High Powers, CZ 75Bs,Beretta 92s,Smiths , SIGs and a bunch of others, but if I can't have a G17 I'll take a SA XD 9. YMMV. tom.
Beretta Elite II. Sad it's not made any more.
P30 (it's the only full size 9mm I have currently). It's not perfect but it's one fine gun.
