I have both, they will both do the job so I just switch out carrying them just for something different.

    I have a G27 with barrels/mags to run 9/357/40.
With the right ammo, Ranger Ts - LOL, they all ROCK!

I'm in the process of finding out if I shoot one better than the other.
That's the real question you need to ask yourself...

    26 for me.
9mm in a sub compact is much more enjoyable to shoot.

Plus follow up shots should be more accurate.

For permit carry, it matters not, either will do fine.

    G27 !
.40 is definitely better for close encounters.
Like the FBI and most Law Enforcement concluded.
Your better off, to just get use to shooting a more powerfull round.
Besides it's just more fun to shoot.

The 27 for me too, I live in the suburb, but I pass through the city from work daily, if its a short stop. The G-22 in the trunk sufices. If I know I am going downtown, I knowingly pack the G-23 before hand.

Probably overthinking when considering G27 vs G26.

Same exact platform and dimensions....and both calibers are proven to be effective (when hits are placed in an area that is vital to the survival of the person being hit!!)

You are fortunate to have both options!

I was told the same thing but FBI and most LEO switched from 9mm to .40 in order to pierce through car doors and windows where the 9mm didn't do that great.....that is at least what I read about the switch in calibers.

If what I read is actually true then a 9mm for self defence is enough...however I own the G27. I shot a G26 and as a newbie I can post more accurate follow up shots better with the G26....so I keep on practicing a lot with my G27.

No matter how much you practice, the G26 will still be easier to shoot. Better shot placement and faster follow up shots, ladies and gentlemen I think we have a winner.

I'd feel equally safe with either.

Short of carrying a long gun everywhere, a handgun in any of the 3 most popular calibers (9mm, .40, or .45) is pretty much a wash, studies show.

    Enjoy!

Good point on the faster follow ups. Not sure what the logic on better shot placement is though, Rustin.

if you cant shoot the 26 as well as the 27, then you need more practice....

Odds are none of us will ever be forced to use our weapon in conceal and carry mode. Nor will any of us be forced to shoot through cars or windows. So we don't need the heavier fire power unless you like the .40 caliber round. My first pistol was in .40 and have bought two 9.mm and IMHO the 9mm is more fun to shoot for me. My nephews dept have discontinued using the G22 for the G21. Yesterday while cleaning out my father in laws home we found two live Japenese grenades from WWII and had to call the local LEO's and I struck up a conversation with him and we talked about his duty weapon where his dept carries either G22 or G23 but they have an order in for G21 and G 17. He said the reason for changing is the .40 is a more difficult round to shoot. Maybe there is a change in philosophy or just a couple isolated examples. Sorry for the long rant but I guess shoot what you like the 9mm has less recoil and is cheaper to shoot.

I shoot my 27 as well as if not better then my 26. I love the 26 but my 27 makes me concentrate and I feel like i am shooting a gun not a 22.
