A G23 with a conversion would be the way to go, if you like
    & have a use for .40

KKM would be my suggestion for a conversion barrel.
For complete reliability, you will need to swap in the appropriate
trigger housing for the caliber being shot. Ejectors are different.
Will also need both caliber magazines.

In the end, you are in it for half the cost of a complete pistol.
    Good or bad? :dunno:

Thank you for that very informative reply :) just wanted to have the best of both worlds since i might be owning just 1 pistol, but i think it is best to stick with the 19 now :)

I do not endorse conversions. The G19 is an excellent choice, and today's contemporary HP ammo is extremely effective.:wavey:

How would you complete this sentence? I need a .40 S&W caliber handgun in addition to a 9mm because...

I have a G23 and a G27, and a conversion barrel for the 23 that works in both of them. I just like the idea of being able to shoot both caliber from the same pistol. It's a Lone Wolf barrel, and I have never had a bobble with either pistol, given the appropriate mags.

Look at it this way. If you buy the 19, you can't convert it, even if you want to.

    • Its nice being able to shoot more than one caliber in times when ammo is in short supply. One could also load .357 sig if needed/ wanted.
    • Most BTF issues are from 9's, not .40's.
    • Some say .40 is a superior round. Of course this is debateable.
All of the above are why I bought a conversion barrel and mags for my 27, instead of swapping out out for a 26 a while back (plus my wife hates me selling guns, which clinched the deal for me).

Traded the 23 for a 27 so I wouldn't have to try to make that decision. 27 now has a pardner in a 26, just depends on the mood and location which travels where

Had a Gen 3 23C. Got a Lone Wolf 40 to 9 barrel and some 9mm magazines. No other changes, put over a thousand rounds through no problems. Liked shooting 9mm far more than .40, so when someone offered me a Gen 4 19 and a bunch of ammo, I traded.

Truth be told, you can't go wrong either way. World's gonna end tomorrow or December 21 depending on who you believe, so do what makes you happy!

Gen 3 G27 with Storm Lake 40-9mm conversion barrels and G26 mags.
2000+ trouble free rounds with 1/2 being HPs.
    No BTF, FTF or FTE.
    Nothing but sweetness.

I would go with the G23 and a conversion. I have a 40-9 barrel for my g22 and shoot 9mm most of the time out of it with 0 issues. Maybe 1 in 10 trips to the range I use the .40 barrel. At home or carry the .40 barrel is always in it.

I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for my 23 and picked up 3 9mm magazines then hit Walmart for some Federal ammo. The barrel fits tight and is very accurate. One of the best buys around for an easy conversion.

x2 on the KKM. I only run the proper caliber mags with the conversion barrels and never had a problem not switching the trigger housing or Ejector.

Is there any difference other than the length of the barrel? I have used a 23-9 LW barrel in my 27. The barrel extends past the slide some but works fine. In my 23 and 27, I only changed the barrel and mags. No problems as yet.

My vote is G23....you can run 3 different calibers thru it with not problems. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I think the answer is simple here, get the 23, and then get the 19. Why get a conversion barrel when you can get another firearm instead? :tongueout:
