Got a G19 for CCW. I need a dedicated night stand gun. I was gonna get a G17 but then got to thinking. Maybe I should get another G19. That way, I now have a back up gun just in case my carry gun has to get some work done or out of commission. What do you guys think?

This is just me but I'm a firm believer in a back up of the same model .
I have three G 22's with one as a dedicated 22 rim fire. SJ 40

  3. I think another G19 is a good idea. I always thought the 17 fit my hand well until I bought a 23. I sure like the compact size frame better.
  4. G17

or G34 with light. I like my light flush with the barrel :)

Why do you need a dedicated nightstand gun? You come home at night, you put your carry gun in the nightstand----boom---- it is now a nightstand gun. And guess what- if it is your carry gun, it is not sitting in the nightstand when you are not there for a burglar to get a hold of. Am I missing something?

I have one of each and I carry both, usually my G19. I love the fit of the G17 but it's a bit large for conceal carry so it's primarily the bedside gun with tactical light. But I can carry it if the 19 is ever down.

Its so my wife has access to a gun if she needs one when I'm not home.

    + 1 for a G34 with light for a night stand gun.
  9. Since others are offering other models other than the 17 and 19, have you considered a Colt M4? $1097 at some local Walmarts.

Same magazines, same holsters, same parts. Advantage G19.

If the object is for your wife to have access to a gun when you're not home, why not find out what she wants and is most comfortable with? Does she go shooting with you? Have you taken her to a gun store to check out the different possibilities?

If the gun is primarily for her, then who knows what she might wind up with - quite possibly even a revolver.

I agree with humphreys19. I don't leave a gun unlocked in the house when I'm not there. That's why I like the Glock 19 and the Kahr CW9. If it isn't with me, whether out or at home, it's in the safe. So your carry piece is your nightstand gun on your side of the bed.

If your wife is home all or most of the time, and wants a gun, why are you asking us and not her?

The wife goes shooting with me and shoots the G19 fairly well. She has difficulty shooting a double action revolver due to the heavier/longer trigger pull. I have an electronic lock box next to the bed which used to house my M&P9. I sold it because i want to stay with the Glock platform. Question is should I get the g17 with the longer slide/sight radius or a G19 which can double as a back up. I also plan on a G34 as well but that will be purely for games and range.

I'd go with a G17 or G34 just for variety.

Its not like you're going to a different platform altogether.

I refuse to buy two of the same model Glock.

In that case I'd get the G34 first. Makes more sense since it can serve as your nightstand/wife/game gun. The 19 would only fill two of those roles for you right now.

I've owned all those Glocks at one time or another. I wouldn't use a G34 as a nightstand gun due to the lighter trigger. Great for games and competition, but a little scary for "meanin' bizzness" gun. If she shoots the 19 well, maybe "If it ain't bust, don't fix it" applies. On the other hand if she could have the opportunity to try a 17 and see if she likes it, that would give you both more flexibility. Has she, or can she get the chance to try a 17?
  19. I don't think the extra sight radius will matter in close distances inside a house. Just saying.

My wife "adopted" my G19 for this very reason.
