Gen4 Glock owners- if you own one please respond

Discussion in 'General Glocking' started by ssevern, Feb 11, 2012.

  1. Hello,

I've seen many, many threads here saying the Gen 4 G19's have ejection problems, and many people saying they work great. My dealer says they work great, and that the issue is history. I tend to think the issue is not as bad as it seems here on Glock Talk, simply because I suspect people are more likely to post regarding a problem gun. Before I purchase my next G19 and /or G26, I'd like to know how widespread the "problem" really is.

Let's do a quick survey. Gen4 Glock owners only please:

    1. Which model(s) do you own?

    2. Which fits your situation:

    A. I have no problem with this handgun
    B. I have ejection problems with this handgun
    C. I had ejection problems, Glock (or armorer) fixed it, and it now rocks.
    D. I had ejection problems, Glock (or armorer) fixed them, but it still isn't right.

    3. Notes/comments regarding your situation and your thoughts on this issue.

Selfishly, I know your responses will be useful to me. I hope they will be useful to others also.

Update: Wow. Lots of great responses. Thank you all for responding, especially regarding an issue which has been beaten to death. It's good to see all of these opinions together in one thread.

Overwhelmingly Gen 4 is either not a problem at all... or for those with early Gen 4 purchases, updated parts have resolved the problem. I'm now TOTALLY confident in the purchase and am off to the dealer with GSSF coupon in hand.

  3. I had one. I bought a new Gen3, it had bad ejection problems, and Glock eventually exchanged it for a new Gen4 with all the updated parts. The Gen4 was better, but still not right. I cut my losses and sold it. Went with a different brand and all is fine.

3 Gen4s and I wish it were more. All perfect.

  8. Mine stovepipes frequently. The ejection pattern is such that it bops me right in the forehead. Very distracting.

I have about 300 rounds through it, all factory Federal. The armourer at the Orlando GSSF match has changed out the RSA, and indicates a new ejector is necessary.

  9. 17, 26, and 27 all gen 4. No issues with any of them. Also have a 22 ordered. Buy one with confidence.

  10. Gen 4 G26:1924 assorted rounds with no failures.About 1 out of 200 rounds it will eject a case toward my head which is a non issue for me.

<Gen 4 G17:2100 assorted rounds with no failures.About 1 out of 100-150 round I'll get a case to the top of my head which is a non issue for me.

Neither of my guns has the new extractor or ejector.I've been meaning to get them but I'm pretty busy and again it's not an issue for me.

I really like the new grip options.I always managed to shoot my Gen 3's well, even though the grips are too big for my smaller hands. The grip change is (IMO)the best part about the Gen 4's.

A Gen 4 19 is next on my list.

Had a 23 with no problems. Talked to the new owner the other day and he loves it. It's a keeper for him and he has even bought to conversion barrels for it.

  13. Have Gen 4 G23 & no problems at all to date. The only thing I can say is that it does feel like the trigger is heavier than my Gen 3 models I currently have and have had in the past, but not by much at all.

    G19...A. My favorite Glock

  15. G19 - no problems with old and new internals
G21 - no problems, new internals, is my favorite Gen4
G22 - no problems, new internals
G26 - no problems, old internals
G27 - no problems, old internals
G34 - no problems, new internals, "-" connector
G37 - no problems, old internals

About the only info I can offer up is that I chased down the newest RSAs and the new ejector for the G19, even though the pistol functioned just fine. The older Gen4s didn't have the "." connector, as do the G21 and G22. Basically, I am not fiddling with anything (because they currently work just fine) until something doesn't work properly or just plain wears out from use. Poor G19 rarely sees any range time as of late due to all the problems and part swapping that's been going on. I haven't fired anything through it since swapping out the ejector, but have fired some with the newest RSA. Didn't want the same thing to happen to the otherwise perfectly operating siblings.

Also note that the G21 was probably the best of all the Gen4 models I've bought that felt the best to me, although I'd say that the G34 is very close, but not with the lighter connector. I am thinking of putting a NY1 spring to match it (same config as my old G23 Gen2) so that the trigger reset is a little bit faster/stronger, but basically providing the same amount of resistance as a stock trigger.

  16. Gen 4 17 and 26

17 ~ Glock Armorer switched out the spring and ejector at the Conyers match. I did have ejection issues prior to the switch but have had zero issues after.

26 ~ same gun as the day I got it and with zero issues. (well I did change the sights Ameriglo)

Got the 17 in Aug. 2011 got the 26 in Nov. of 2011.

I do plan to get an extended mag release for the 17 at Griffin. Fingers crossed.

  17. Let's do a quick survey. Gen4 Glock owners only please:

    1. Which model(s) do you own? Glock 19

    2. Which fits your situation:

    A. I have no problem with this handgun
    B. I have ejection problems with this handgun
    C. I had ejection problems, Glock (or armorer) fixed it, and it now rocks.
    D. I had ejection problems, Glock (or armorer) fixed them, but it still isn't right.

    3. Notes/comments regarding your situation and your thoughts on this issue.

Sent it to Glock, got it back in 8 days, runs like a champ now. 3500+ rounds!

  18. The results of the survey will be a very unrealistic sampling of other people's results. What you really want to know is will YOU have a problem.

So, if you are buying a Gen 4, all you need to know is a test fire date of 10/10/11 or later. If you search around, you can find the number for the upgraded ejector (32xxx something). I don't plan to buy a Gen 4 (not approved for sale in California) so I'm not going to search for the part number.

If you are buying a Gen 3 made some time after the SHOT show in 2010, you MIGHT have a problem. Nobody has nailed down the start date for the mods that caused this glitch. It's my understanding that Glock has FINALLY started fixing these guns but don't take my word for it. I don't know if they are actually shipping guns with the fixes incorporated.

AFAIK, these issues are only on 9mm guns. But, again, don't take my word for it. My late model Gen 3 G21SF works fine.

  19. Gen.4 G19. It has 04 RSA. No issues, but I only have about two hundred rounds through it. Just to be on the safe side, I stored it with the slide locked
back for a week before firing the first shot, and all but fifty rounds were 115 grainers(about half factory virgin load range ammo, and half +p and +p+ carry loads.) The odd fifty were 124+p. I personally LIKE the 115 grainers, but I also stuck with them for break-in because of all the negative press. I figured if it was gonna fail, I wanted to know up front. I would buy again, so long as it is
an updated RSA. My favorite Glock.

  20. G19 Gen4 - zero problems, great one
    G23 Gen4 - same.

If you can buy one of the recent ones, with the new recoil and ejector you are all set.

  21. I own a Very early G17 Gen4 and a G26 Gen4. No problem with either. I shoot 124gr Speer Gold dots, and I clean with Ballistol, and lube with Mobil 1
